Book Review: Vogue on Christian Dior by Charlotte Sinclair

Recently, while looking through my book collection, I discovered my copy of Vogue on Christian Dior by Charlotte Sinclair. When I purchased the book, I was very excited to read it, but I was distracted shortly after I began to read it and didn’t finish it. I really enjoyed reading it and wished I finished it. I had time on my hands, so I began to read it again with the intention of finishing the book.

Vogue on Christian Dior is part of a series of autobiographical books about well known fashion designers called Vogue on Designers. The series is written by the editors of British Vogue and includes books about Coco Chanel, Hubert de Givenchy, and Giorgio Armani. The book about Christian Dior is written by Charlotte Sinclair, a freelance journalist and contributing editor to British Vogue.

As someone may expect, Vogue on Christian Dior is about Christian Dior, the founder of the house of Dior. The book talks about Dior’s childhood, history before working in fashion, the founding of his fashion house, and his death. Included in the book are archival photographs of Dior, his designs, models, employees, and other photographs pertaining to the House of Dior. All the photographs were taken by the leading photographers of the time including Cecil Beaton and Horst P. Horst.

The book is much easier to read than many other autobiographies I’ve read. The way the book is written is to the point without seeming too disconnected from the subject. Because of this, the book is easy to read and a faster reader could finish the book in one or two days. Even though it is easy to read, it still contains a lot of information and focuses on the important highlights of Dior’s life.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a biography about Dior and his career, but knows very little about Dior and his life. I also would recommend this book to any Dior fan, even ones who are well versed in Dior’s life. The photographs in the book make it worth owning and using as a coffee table book.

Well, that’s all for now! Thank you for reading!

5 Makeup Prodcuts at Sephora I Would Like to Try- February 2021

Recently, I needed to shop at Sephora for a product I ran out of. While looking at Sephora’s website, I found new makeup products I want to try. After finishing browsing Sephora’s website, I narrowed my makeup wish list down to five products I would love to buy and try. I’m unsure if I will ultimately buy and try everything on my list, but I hopeful I will try at least three before the end of the year. Top 5 Favorite Dior Makeup and Beauty Products

It’s the time of the year to buy Christmas makeup gift sets and great excuse to buy makeup to try out. Buying myself makeup gift sets is how I discovered some of my favorite Dior Beauty products. Dior is, of course, not affordable for everyone and I need to be careful how many items I buy at one time so I won’t spend more money than I allow myself to. Despite this, I have some make up and beauty favorites that, if I need to replace it, I tend to look at those items first before I search for anything else from Dior.

Recently, while shopping recent makeup and beauty sales, I discovered some of my favorites on sale. Although I didn’t buy back up of them during the sales because I’m happy with the number of backups I have, I thought it may be fun to list my favorite makeup and beauty items from Dior. Although they are pricey, I am happy with the quality of the makeup and beauty items on my favorites list and I hope that, if anyone wants to try new make up, they could start with one of my favorites.

My Experience Ordering from Dior’s Website for the First Time

After a lot of thought, and searching Christian Dior’s website, I found the present I wanted to give myself as an indulgence for my recent positive health prognosis. Even though it will take a while before I’m completely recovered, I still wanted to treat myself. The problem was it’s Dior and it’s expensive. Although I couldn’t order a handbag or wallet like I originally planed, I did find something I’m very confident I will enjoy owning. It was my first time ordering from Dior’s website, so I wanted to talk about what it’s like ordering from Dior, how the shopping experience went, and what I think of ordering from Dior in general. Favorite Dior Dresses from the Fall/Winter 2020-2021 Haute Couture Collection

Dior released the video of their fall/winter 2020-2021 haute couture collection on July 6, 2020. The video, which can be seen on YouTube here, popped up on my YouTube recommendations the day before it premiered. When July 6, 2020 arrived, I sat down, watched it, and loved so many of the designs from the collection. I had a hard time picking out dresses I liked from Dior since Maria Grazia Chiuri took over as head designer. Although there are many designs I liked, I also felt like it wasn’t something I could wear with normal curves to my body. It was frustrating to see a fashion house I loved growing up but now as an adult can’t wear. But the 2020-2021 collection was an exception.

There are many dresses I would love to own, if I was going somewhere I needed to wear a formal dress, as well as an 1890’s style dress that makes my Steampunk side excited to see as “fashionable” in 2020. Because there are so many dresses I love, I wanted to feature my favorite dresses in this collection.

All the photographs in this post are from Vogue US’s coverage of the collection. You can see the coverage of the collection here.

Macy’s Spring 2020 VIP Beauty Sale Favorites

Around this time of the year, Ulta and Sephora have their semi annual sales. Although I enjoy shopping them, there is another beauty product sale I enjoy shopping: Macy’s VIP sale.

Macy’s held their VIP sale for many years, but I didn’t start shopping the beauty portion of the VIP sale until a few years ago. After seeing the amount of beauty products available for sale as well as discounts Sephora and Ulta do not offer on certain brands and products, I always make sure to shop the Macy’s sale as well as the Sephora and Ulta sales. I received an email today from Macy’s saying the sale is on, so I wanted to share my favorite beauty products that are part of the sale. All the products in this post, as well as all beauty products in the sale, are 15% off regular price and do not require a membership or qualifying order to get a discount. Dior Capture Youth Age-Delay Advanced Creme Review

Last year, after a weather change, I began to experience very dry skin. I normally don’t have this problem, but after recovering from a serious antibiotic resistant infection, I noticed my body is changing in many great ways, and in other not so great ways. Including my skin needing more moisturizer. I knew my skin would eventually need more moisturizers that I usually use, but I didn’t know how badly it would effect my face skin!

After raiding my samples from Sephora and Macy’s, I found a sample tube of Dior Capture Youth Age-Delay Advanced Creme. Ever since my infection, I need to be careful what kinds of skincare products I can put on my face and skin in general. For the most part, I cannot put skin care products that are not hypoallergenic. After doing some research, I discovered that this cream is advertised as hypoallergenic and would work for my skin. So I gave it a try.

After using it for almost a week, I decided to buy the full sized version of the creme. I ultimately purchased the 2019 gift set that included the full sized version of the creme, two serums to use with the creme, and a pouch. After using the full sized version of the creme, without the serums, I learned a few things about the creme that I wanted to share. Dior Capture Youth 2019 Christmas Gift Set Review

In December, I realized I needed a new moisturizer. After going through my samples, I found Dior’s Capture Youth cream. I really liked it and, despite the price tag of the cream, I decided to buy a jar of it. During a sale at Macy’s, I found a Christmas gift set for the Capture Youth creme. Since the price for the gift set cost the same amount as one same size pot of the cream, and Macy’s had Dior beauty products on sale, I purchased the gift set.

Fragrance Gift Ideas for Him- 2019

In yesterday’s blogmas post, I talked about fragrance gift ideas for her. Today, I wanted to talk about fragrance gift ideas for him. Although I’m as passionate about fragrances as others, I know less about men’s fragrances. Still, I found five fragrances that I believe men will love Continue reading “Fragrance Gift Ideas for Him- 2019”
