My New Reading Goal for 2026 and Some of The Books On My TBR List

Last month, I published a post about my reading goals for 2026 and how well I am doing with them. At the end of the post, I mentioned adjusting my reading goals from a set number of books I plan on reading before the end of the year to a different type of reading goal.

After some thought, I decided to change my reading goal for 2026. Even though I still feel like this new reading goal is ambitious, it is far more obtainable for me right now. Also, it motivates me more to read!

My new reading goal is to read as many books as I can, but these books are the ones I’m the most excited to read. I have a lot of books I’m not excited to read, but I feel obligated to read them in order to decide if I should or should not keep them.

In June, I did a major clean out of my home library and got rid of many books. Quite a few of these books are ones I have either read and didn’t like or never read at all. Instead of keeping these books, I decided to get rid of them. This has helped me out a lot both in freeing physical space to store the books I actually do like and it removes all the books I don’t want to see on my shelves anymore.

Along the way, I rediscovered books I bought and was excited to read, but didn’t because they got lost in my book collection. After finding these books, I realized I still want to read these books. So, I decided to prioritize reading and enjoying them at my own pace instead of reading a set number of books before the end of the year.

Here are some of the books I want to read before the end of the year…

  1. The Hunt for Red October by Tom Clancy
  2. The Unearthly Series by Cynthia Hand
  3. The Summer I Turned Pretty Series by Jenny Han
  4. Dragonlance Chronicles by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
  5. Dragonlance Trilogy by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
  6. Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery
  7. Quest for Love Trilogy by Kristy Broyce

The list of books I am excited to read is pretty long, so I want to focus on the books I really want to read right now.

Ever since my reading break in May, I’ve been really enjoying watching action movies again. So, The Hunt for Red October will probably be one of the first ones I will read. I also miss reading The Summer I Turned Pretty during the summertime, so I want to read it soon too. Since it it is heading towards fall, I want to read some more fantasy novels. I read the Dragonlance novels, but that was many years ago. I’d like to read them over again, especially now that some of them are getting rereleased. The Quest for Love Trilogy is highly recommended to me by friends, so I’m excited to read it. I haven’t read Anne of Green Gables is a while, so I’d like to read it. Finally, I was already rereading The Unearthly Series before my reading break, so I’d like to finish rereading it.

So, that’s the update on my 2026 reading goals! I still hope to read as many books as possible before the end of the year, (and maybe get somewhere near my original reading goal?) but that depends on how fast I read the books I want to read on my TBR list. I want to focus on enjoying my books for the rest of the year without worrying about meeting a monthly quota.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
