Random Fashion New Roundup for May 2023

If you are a long time reader of this blog, then you’d probably know I don’t cover much news on here. This blog is not one that covers much news, if any at all, unless I think it is noteworthy on here. That being said, there are a handful of fashion news I wanted to talk about in posts.

Even though I wanted to write individual post about them all, I didn’t think it was worth the time to write separate posts for everything I learned. Instead, I decided to write a post dedicated to all the fashion news I found out about during the month of May. Everything in this post is not as new as other fashion news, or as important, but it is something that caught my ear and eye. So, I hope you enjoy reading my fashion news roundup!

Book Review: Claris The Chicest Mouse in Paris: Holiday Heist by Megan Hess

Near the end of 2021, I found one of Megan Hess’ Clairs books went on sale on Amazon. It was reduced enough that I felt comfortable purchasing it. The book, called Claris, The Chicest Mouse in Paris Holiday Heist, is a Christmas book about an adventure Clair’s goes on during the holiday season in New York City. It looked super cute and, even though I don’t have children, I really enjoy owning children’s books with beautiful illustrations. 5 Types of Clothing I Love But Don’t Look Good on Me

Every August, I look for new clothes to wear during the fall and winter. I’m lucky to live in a warm climate, so our fall and winters are mild. Despite this, there have been times when cold snaps happen and I need to drag out my heavy winter clothes. This is why I like to look for new clothes starting in July and August to purchase.

This year, my health has improved a great deal, which means I could find clothes that look good on me. Usually, I purchase clothes with the intention of hiding something on my body that is a health problem. Even though I should be happy about this, inflation and less clothing available in the area where I normally shop had made this a very upsetting time for me to shop for new clothes. Despite this, I still want to search.

While searching for new clothes and outfit inspiration, I realized I love outfits with clothes I cannot wear. Many years have passed since I was diagnosed with my illness. In that time, I forgot many of the outfits I love to look at will never look good on me. It is not because of my health problems. It is because the shape of my body does not look good in these clothes.

Since this a topic I thought about a lot lately, and loved to focus on because it releases my stress from other things that are going on in my life, I decided to write a post about all the types of clothing I love to look at, but really don’t look good on me. Movie Review: The September Issue (2009)

During the sort-of social media/blogging break I recently took, I fell into a rabbit’s hole of watching movies on YouTube’s movie and TV show channel. I couldn’t go out and watch movies in the movie theater like I wanted to, so watching the channel really helped me feed my need for new movies without needing to leave the house.

Even though YouTube offers movies that can be bought or rented, I prefer the free with ads section. Basically, you can watch the movies and TV shows without paying a fee to watch them. You do need to sit through ads, but I never noticed if they are more annoying or intrusive than watching normal YouTube videos with ads.

After watching many of the movies available for free with ads, I found The September Issue. I watched it many years ago, but I forgot most of the movie. Since it was available to watch, I thought it was the perfect chance to watch it again, but this time for free.

What I Learned About My Fashion Taste by Making My Own Clothes

For the past few months, I tried to spend my spare time on making myself new clothes. I enjoy sewing, but I never had the time to make myself clothes. This changed a few months ago when I had vehicle problems that caused me to stay home more often than I thought I would. Even though I started to spend this time sewing myself clothes, I had a hard time focusing on making the clothes. There are several reasons why this happened, but one of the things that I struggled with is the style of my sewing patterns.

Since I was at home for so long, I didn’t go anywhere. That also means I didn’t need to have a closet full of clothes I can where when I go out. I didn’t need special occasion clothes, office clothes, or clothes for anything but staying at home most of the time. Even though I still needed these clothes, I didn’t feel motivated to work on them. I originally thought this was due to my focus on the vehicles and problems with them and other things that happened in my life at that time, but I realized I didn’t feel motivated to sew because I hated my sewing patterns and the clothes they would make.

Book Review: The Dress: 100 Iconic Moments in Fashion by Megan Hess

Earlier this year, I decided to collect some of Megan Hess’ books. The first book I purchased was Illustrated World of Couture, but my second and third was New York: Through the Fashion Eye and The Dress: 100 Iconic Moments in Fashion.

The book was purchased at the same time as New York: Through the Fashion Eye. Even though I’m happy to own both books, they, along with other books I ordered, suffered water damage. I’m not sure how that happened because it didn’t rain anywhere near where the tracking said the package went, but it was damaged. It wasn’t damaged enough to force me to return the books, which is why I kept all of them. Still, the water damage can be seen on the top right hand corner of some of the pages. I didn’t take pictures of the damaged pages, but if you, for any reason, are curious about why I didn’t photograph certain pages and use them in this post, that is probably why. Book Review: The Illustrated World of Couture by Megan Hess

For the past few weeks, I’ve had a lot of time to read. Because of this, I decided to dedicate the next seven posts to reviewing some of the books I read, reread, or read and recently thought about.

For the first book I’m reviewing, I wanted to start with a fashion book by Megan Hess. Earlier this year, I purchased more books by Megan Hess, including some of her fashion illustration books. The first one I purchased is The Illustrated World of Couture. I love her illustrations of couture clothing and shows, so I though it would be a book I would really enjoy reading and owning.

Book Review: It’s All About the Dress by Randy Fenoli

It’s June, the traditional month to get married. Here in Arizona, people do get married in June, but the weddings are usually smaller, budget friendly, and/or are held early in the morning or at night. The reason why weddings are different than weddings held in Spring, Fall, and Winter seasons is because of the hot temperatures. June is the hottest month of the year, so it’s not easy to have a wedding. Despite this, I still associate June as a month for weddings.

I own books about how to make formal dresses, including wedding dresses. Recently, while dusting my books, I remembered one of my favorite non sewing books in my collection. The book, It’s All About The Dress, is written by Randy Fenoli. Randy Fenoli is best known for staring in the TLC show Say Yes to the Dress. Randy, a fashion designer, wrote a book about everything a woman needs to know about buying a wedding dress.

The book was released in 2011 and I purchased it at that time brand new. Since then I tried to take care of it, even though I used it often as a base reference for fabrics, shapes of dresses, and other important things people will need to know not only for bridal dresses, but for formal dresses as well. Even though the book isn’t as widely available like it used to be, I still wanted to write a review about it in case anyone is curious about the book themselves. Dillard’s Prom Dresses In Store Photographs 2022

Well, this is the last post featuring the prom dresses I took pictures of during a shopping trip to the mall. The mall I went to had three stores that sold dresses that are designated prom dresses. They include JcPenny’s and Macy’s. The third and final store was Dillards.

Back when I was a teenager, Dillards was always the store to go to if you wanted a prom dress. The dresses would always look pretty and have the most unique styles and designs. This year, I found many prom dresses available in a wide variety of colors. (It helped that I looked in early March) Even though there are many dresses, and I took many photographs of them for friends of mine that have daughters going to prom this year, I didn’t want to overload this post with photographs of dresses.
