Book Review: Claris The Chicest Mouse in Paris: Holiday Heist by Megan Hess
Near the end of 2021, I found one of Megan Hess’ Clairs books went on sale on Amazon. It was reduced enough that I felt comfortable purchasing it. The book, called Claris, The Chicest Mouse in Paris Holiday Heist, is a Christmas book about an adventure Clair’s goes on during the holiday season in New York City. It looked super cute and, even though I don’t have children, I really enjoy owning children’s books with beautiful illustrations. Even though I purchased the book in the beginning of the year, I wanted to wait until Blogmas to publish a review post about it.
Before I talk about my thoughts about the book, I wanted to show what the book itself looks like. This is what the front looks like…
And the back…
Both the front and the back had a golden foil boarder. It looks very pretty!
The front cover has a beautiful collage of some of the illustrations found in the book…
The book has a page that can be written on with the book’s owner’s name and who gifted it to them…
Here are photographs of some of the pages and illustrations in the book…
As for the book’s plot, Amazon’s blurb about the book is…
A sweet little mouse takes on a cheeky cat burglar with holiday cheer! Can Claris and Monsieur save the day – the New York way?
The book is a very cute. Like with all of the books in the Claris book series, the book is written in rhymes. Even though all the books are written like this, the way the Holiday Heist is written is probably one of my favorites in the series. It is very enjoyable to read and, even though I’m an adult, I still really enjoyed it.
The illustrations are beautiful. I am a fan of Megan Hess’ artwork, especially her art for the Claris book series, so I think I would normally say this. Yet, the way she illustrates New York City makes the city look magical and special. I also love the main colors she chose for the illustrations. The colors, which are reds, golds, and blacks, make the illustrations pop and stand out while giving a festive look to the book. There are also other colors included in the illustrations, but the choice of reds, golds, and black makes it not only more appropriate for the Christmas season, but also very fashionable and chic without trying too hard.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The story is cute and full of adventure. It ends with a happy ending and is a great Christmas time book for anyone with children. I also recommend this book to any Megan Hess fan with a love for Christmas, especially Christmas time in New York City.
Well, that’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
