My Search for Camping Gear for Summer 2026- How the Search is Going and Changes in Plans

Earlier this year, I wrote two posts about my search for and desire to buy camping gear, specifically camping chairs and a tent or canopy. Since I wrote those posts, the time I consider the peak summer time period (Late May through mid July) has passed. Because time has passed since I wrote those posts, I want to write an update post about my search for camping gear.

First, I was able to buy the camping chairs I wanted to buy. In June, I purchased a second pair of chairs I found on sale. I did this because my relative uses camping/folding chairs for work. I normally wouldn’t see the chairs unless they are folded up, so I was surprised to walk past them one day and see the condition they are in. The ones he has are looking pretty beaten up, so I decided to keep an eye out for the same type of folding chairs if they go on sale. In June, the chairs went on sale, but they sold out at the Walmart I normally shop at.

In addition to those chairs, there were other chairs that went on sale at the same time. They are normally more expensive than the chairs I bought, (Around $10 more) but they were on sale for around the same price as the chairs I purchased previously. They are also nicer than the first chairs as well. So, I decided to buy the nicer chairs and save the other chairs I purchased as a back up for my relative whenever he needs new folding chairs. Especially since they are a very popular type of folding/camping chair and can sell out!

As for the tent or canopy search, I didn’t make very good progress. I would keep looking at tents at Walmart and I still don’t know which tent to purchase. My problem is I don’t know what size tent I want to purchase. If I were to go camping, I don’t know if I want a smaller tent (Room enough for two people) or a tent large enough to have an elaborate camping setup. After debating this for months, I believe I will need to make a decision about what kind of camping trip I would like to normally go on. Such as a trip that requires hiking to the camping spot or would I prefer to drive to the camping spot? If I need to hike, I need a smaller tent, allowing me to carry more equipment easily. If I drive and I don’t need to hike, I can use a larger tent because I don’t need to carry it very far.

As for a canopy, I still don’t want to cross off buying one. If I use a tent as a canopy, I need to buy a large one. Yet, if I decide to buy a small tent for weight reasons, it will be too small to use a canopy. Because of this, I decided to keep browsing for canopies. I found a canopy at Walmart that I would prefer to own. It has detachable sides and can be customized to have a screen, a panel of fabric, or just nothing on it’s posts. I will need to buy the canopy and the different sides separately, but I still like it a lot.

Even though I’m debating over what to buy and why, I added something to my list of camping equipment I need to buy: a camping dutch oven. For several years, I have had concerns about being able to cook meals during blackouts. The blackouts that happened this year have not been frequent or long, but this has not been that way in pervious years. So, I began to buy some camping equipment for cooking without electricity. I had plans to buy a dutch oven for campfire cooking, but I never got around to actually purchasing it. This year, I want to buy one. I may not need it, but I feel more comfortable to own one that is full seasoned (It is a cast iron dutch oven so it need to be seasoned) and ready to use whenever I need it.

Right now stores are trying to get rid of their summer items and replace them with fall and Halloween. This means I might (Emphasis on might) be able to find the camping gear I want for a lower price.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
