Movie Review: A Merry Scottish Christmas (2023)
Every Christmas season, Hallmark releases many Christmas themed romance movies. In most recent years, I felt overwhelmed by the amount of movies Hallmark releases ever holiday season. For the most part, I like them, but I don’t really love them.
In 2023, Hallmark released A Merry Scottish Christmas. When I watched it for the first time, I was really impressed by it. Since then, I’ve dwelled on the movie and how different it is from other royal Christmas romance movies I’ve watched over the past few years. This brought me to decided to write a review about it for Blogmas.
The plot summary of the movie from Hallmark is…
When estranged siblings, Lindsay and Brad Morgan travel to Scotland at Christmas to reunite with their mother Jo, a big family secret is revealed.
Starring Lacey Chabert and Scott Wolf.
It is different than other more recent (2020 to today) Hallmark movies that take place in a foreign country. This one’s story is more complicated and involves two main storylines: Brad and Lindsay. Although the romance story everyone expects from Hallmark’s Christmas movies is Lindsay’s, Brad is married and his wife comes with him to Scotland. The romance stories, along with the big family secret, causes complications in both Lindsay and Brad’s lives, their family, it also impacts their love lives. It causes stress on Brad’s marriage, which was already going through a season of stress, and causes Lindsay to have second thoughts on her budding romance.
I like this movie a lot. It’s more complicated plot with multiple storylines is very interesting. I went into watching the movie thinking it would be a normal royal Christmas themed romance movie. When I was finished watching the movie for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised. The family isn’t perfect, the secret was a surprise, and how it impacted Lindsay and Brad as well as their relationships (Including with each other) was interesting to watch. It does end on a happy ending, but there were times when I thought the movie’s happy ending would end differently. That being said, it was and ending that I thought suited the movie and made sense. The acting in the movie was good too.
I high recommend this movie to anyone looking for a clean Christmas romance movie with a completed plot (Compared to other royal Christmas movies) but still ends happily ever after.
That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
