How I Miss Going to Bookstores in Person and Why I Don’t Go to My Old Favorite Stores Anymore

Ever since 2020, I have become more and more of a homebody. I used to not mind this, but over the past few years, I have become to wonder if I should try to go out more. One of the places I used to go but don’t anymore are book stores.

I’m not gonna lie, I miss going to book stores. I used to run errands and do other things in areas where book stores were located. I hated traveling to and from them because of how busy they are, yet visiting book stores made it more enjoyable. Today, I don’t go to those areas anymore, so visiting a book store will be harder for me to do.

Today, I shop online for my books a lot. The only time I don’t shop for books online is either a grocery stores, Walmart, or for discounted books at Marshall’s, Home Goods, and Dollar Tree. Yet, I still miss seeing new releases in book stores.

In order to make myself feel better about my inability to visit book stores, I watch YouTube videos of people visiting book stores. Seeing the different book stores has made me think about my old book stores and if I actually want to shop there anymore.

The stores I used to visit include second hand book stores and a Barnes and Noble. The last time I visited them, people were shopping there and I enjoyed shopping there, but you could tell the books the stores had to offer were aimed for the people that lived in the area. Especially Barnes and Noble. I don’t mind browsing a book store that carries books aimed for people who lived in the area, but in this case, I didn’t like any of the books they had! Also, since 2020, one of the second hand bookstores I liked to visit closed. I’m still sad about it because it was the closest bookstore where I live and they carried a lot of newly released comic books. (That is why the store was so special to me. None of the other second hand book stores had comic books unless they were second hand!)

I’m not going to lie, I still miss visiting bookstores in person. Living so far away from one has been something that I never liked. Yet, I don’t like living near the ones I used to shop at. The roads are always busy and trying to find a way to get to them without becoming overwhelmed by the amount of traffic and bad drivers is something I will never miss. Today, they are worse. I know I wouldn’t have ever visited them if I didn’t need to travel to the area in the first place. Still, I wish there was a small book store outside the city I could visit in order to satisfy my need to visit a store!

In the mean time, I will continue shopping online and watch bookstore vlogs to satisfy my desire to visit and shop at one.
