Ordering More Groceries Online and Why I’m Doing It More Frequently

Ever since 2022, I began to order more groceries online. Whenever I say this, people sometimes believe I am placing a pickup order at a local grocery store. Instead, I am purchasing more groceries online and having them shipped to my house.

To be honest, I don’t like doing this. For me, groceries need to be purchased in person. I want to see what I am actually purchasing before I pay money for them. I want to see what kind of quality they are, how beat up the boxes are, and how fresh the fruits and veggies are. If I can’t touch them or look at them in person, I’m not interested in purchasing them. This is why shopping for groceries online makes me so upset.

Still, I’m doing this for multiple reasons. The first is I can’t travel as far as I used to. Work life and other commitments prevent me from spontaneously taking a day off work and go shopping at other grocery stores further away. I used to be able to do this, but now that has changed.

The second reason is because ingredients have changed in foods. I have mentioned my food allergies on this blog before as the reason why I needed to start making my own bread. (You can read that post here) My problems with new ingredients in foods I used to eat has only continued the past few years. Searching for food I’m not allergic to has been difficult to put it mildly.

The final reason why I need to shop online is because the stores in my area haven’t been keeping full stock of everything I normally purchase. Recently, while out shopping for whole wheat flour for a new recipe I want to try, I discovered the store I was shopping at didn’t carry whole wheat flour anymore! They had plenty of pizza dough flour and other harder to come by flours, but no whole wheat. I’m still shocked about this. This particular store normally carries whole wheat flour. Yet, now it doesn’t?!

Add into the mix supply chain issues and you can probably see why I started to order so many groceries online.

Overall, I’m pretty upset about this. I live in a rural area, but I travel to a larger area where more things can be found. I thought the grocery options in this area I shop in haven’t changed much since the Covid-19 pandemic. Sadly, for the past few years, they have. Even though it is hard to shop for groceries now, I am starting to find comforting in knowing I can find whatever I’m looking for online. I no longer feel as frustrated as I once had been and now feel more comfortable shopping online for my groceries.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
