Gift Ideas for Sewers- Part 2
In a previous post, I talked about gift ideas for sewers. While writing the post, I realized that I had a lot of gift ideas! Instead of including them in one large post, I decided to break them up into two different posts. You can read the first post here.
And now, here are more gift ideas for sewers!
Fabric
Fabric is an essential part of sewing, so giving the gift of fabric can be a really good gift idea. There are some downsides to giving it as a gift though. The two major downsides are to know the kind of fabric wanted and amount of fabric needed to complete a project. This would mean the recipient of the gift may need to tell the giver what they want. This is why giving fabric as a gift may not be a good idea for someone who wants to give a surprise gift. Still, if the person giving the gift knows what type of fabric and the amount of fabric the recipient wants, it would still be a great gift.
Sewing Machine Needles (Common Versions)
Sewing machine needles are always needed for sewers. Sewing machine needles wear out and need to be replaced. This is why buying common sized needles are a really nice gift. I recommend buying needles that are from a known brand that creates good quality needles. One of the brands I like and are easily accessible is Schmetz. I really don’t recommend buying needles that are cheep. The cost reflects the quality.
Thread (Common Versions)
Another good sewing gift is giving thread. If you don’t know what kind of thread or the color the recipient of the gift likes, find common brands (Such as Coats & Clark) and purchase neutral colors. For an example, purchase all purpose thread in white or black. If they hand quilt, purchase hand quilting thread. If you want to make the gift really special, try to buy more than one spool of thread. For an example, three spools in white and three in black. Then give them as a gift pack!
Hand Sewing Needles and Pins
Just like sewing machine needles, hand sewing needles and pins would also make great gifts. They wear out, including loose the sharpness of their points, due to use and need to be replaced. If you want the needles and pins to be special, look for a hand sewing needles with a case or are gold plated. As for pins, look for pins with a unique design or a unique pin cushion.
Sewing Travel Kit
Another gift that is both useful and thoughtful is a sewing travel kit. The kits can be cheep or expensive depending on your budget. Usually these kits include hand sewing needles, a mini pair of scissors, and thread wound around bobbins that fit into the kit. Look at these kits to see what they include as well as reviews to see which ones are worth your money. Also, there are vintage inspired kits available online.
Gift Card or Cash
I feel like I want to say this at the end of every gift idea post, but considering gift cards or cash as a gift is not a bad gift for anyone who sews, paints, draws, or does any sort of arts and crafts of any kind. Not only will the person like it, it will also be very useful! The receiver will be able to purchase anything they want or need to create their next project.
That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
