Lego Botanical Sets and Why I Don’t Own One (But Still Like Looking at Them)

Last month, I found a display at Walmart for the Valentine’s Day themed Lego botanical sets. I took photos of the sets, as well as other sets I found for sale that day to remind myself of what my local store sells and how much they cost. After looking at the sets and other sets available online, I decided to pass on purchasing any set.

For a few years, I was interested in purchasing a Lego botanical set. I sometimes like to purchase Lego sets that catch my eye and build them, as long as they are not too expensive and will fit in with my decor. For several years, I didn’t purchase a Lego set. This is why I was so drawn to the botanical sets.

If you never heard of theses sets, it is a Lego set that builds something that is botanically inspired. The botanicals can be anything from long stemmed roses and cherry tree blossom branches to banzai trees and floral bouquets for table displays. These sets caught my eye because they are Legos that would fit into my decor.

When I first saw these sets a few years ago, I was really intrigued. I even had a set I really wanted to purchase and build. Yet, every time I would see it in store, I would look at the box, then put it back on the shelf. After years of doing this, I finally realized something: I like the idea, yet I don’t want own one.

Although these sets are really popular, they are something I don’t actually want to own. If someone were to give them to me as a present, I would be thrilled to receive it and would look forward to building it. Yet, when it comes to buying a set for myself, I actually don’t want to buy them.

I don’t know why I don’t want to buy one, but there are multiple reasons I like them, yet not want to own them. First, although I like them and they could fit in with my decor, I also can’t see them blending in with my decor. Also, the Legos cost more than faux flowers. Because of this, I would rather purchase faux flowers and use them instead of a Lego set. Finally, I have problems cleaning any Lego set I put out on display. It has to do with the Lego’s texture and how it catches the dirt. It is just hard to clean! It is easier to clean my faux flowers than Legos.

To be honest, I’m not surprised I don’t want to purchase the Lego botanical sets. I still like to build things, but I am more focused and invested in non-Lego building projects. I won’t stop looking at the sets available for sale, but I have always been particular about the Lego sets I want and build. Even as a child I felt like this. So, it takes me a while to decide to purchase one. This is why I thought the botanical sets would be great sets for me. Sadly, it is not. Yet, I still enjoy looking at them and seeing how they are build.
