A Life Update: Eczema, Refrigerator Problems, and Wrapping My Head Around Fixing My House
Well, life has been… interesting. I’m still struggling to maintain a constant post schedule this year. I thought everything had returned to normal last week… until something really serious happened to my refrigerator. Since there are so many things happened since I talked about my life, I decided to talk about some of the things that have gone on in the past week or so.
First, I wanted to talk about my refrigerator problems.
My refrigerator decided to quit working last week. I have a refrigerator/freezer combo that was purchased over six years ago. I started to experience problems with it a few years ago, but it wasn’t a problem that required me to replace it immediately. Still, I knew I would need to replace it sooner than I thought.
Last week, the freezer stopped working. It is still able to produce cool air, but it doesn’t freeze anything. Luckily, I have backup freezers for extra food I buy in bulk and save in the event I need to stay home for long periods of time. I was able to move all the food I had in my main freezer to the backup freezer without loosing a lot of food. (I did loose some ice cream I stored in it, but I wasn’t too upset by it. I needed to get rid of it anyway and planned to do it last week, but the freezer had other ideas.)
As of the publishing of this post, I have ordered a new refrigerator and it will be delivered this week. I’m pretty excited about it! It will be the first time I will own a refrigerator that has stainless steel doors. It won’t be fancy like many of the refrigerators I see online (Especially the LG one with a glass door and a light that turns on when the glass is knocked on) but that doesn’t bother me as much as it does other people.
With all the stress, I thought my eczema would flare up. I’m still struggling with eczema and I know the triggers for it. Stress and allergies are the two major factors in my flare ups. I’ve been doing better in managing my allergies (Take allergy medication and avoid my food allergies) and it has really improved my flare ups. Before the refrigerator problems, I noticed my skin was healing and returning back to normal. This is why when the refrigerator problems surfaced, I was worried my eczema was going to experience a major flare up.
Instead of flaring up, my eczema stopped clearing up… and just stayed like that. I still see some swollen parts to my skin (Specifically my arms) at the end of the day and I still feel a lot of pain due to the swelling, but nothing other than that. Even though I’m still in pretty bad shape and need to continue to take care of myself, seeing my eczema behaving the way it does has given me a larger perspective on how far I’ve come and how well I’ve been taking care of myself.
Throughout these issues, I also have also come to the conclusion that I don’t need help fixing my house… for now at least. I still sometimes feel an overwhelming amount of frustration about my health problems and how they force me to take on the house fixes slower than I want to. Some days I just don’t want to try anymore. Yet, after the refrigerator failure and how fast I was able to find a replacement made me feel way more confident in my own abilities to live alone and take care of my house. There will always be things I can’t do on my own, but I am dealing with things that I can handle on my own. I just need to stop thinking about how many setbacks I had throughout my life and focus on the task at hand.
And with that, I also realized something else I need to order for my house: Paint.
I’ll go more into that in a future post.
That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
