2019 Christmas House Interior Decoration Progress- Part 1

Last year, I did a horrible job decorating my house for Christmas. It was so bad, I didn’t even put up a tree! There was many reason for this (Including recovering from an antibiotic resistant infection I had for many years), but this year I wanted to put some effort into decorating. The problem is I didn’t like many of my old decorations. They worked well when I purchased them, but that was over 5 years ago when my lifestyle was different and I needed to take care of an ill family member. I did do some shopping for new decorations, but I didn’t find exactly what I was looking for. (I did find stuff for my home office, but that’s for another post) So, I made do with the decorations I did love an enjoy decorating with and decided to see if there was anything I could buy to add to this year’s decorations.

So, I even though I believed I would have all my decorating finished before today (The day this post goes live), I’m not. Despite this, I wanted to share everything I’ve done so far and talk about what I want/need decoration wise before I can call my Christmas decorating finished.

The first place I’m trying to figure out how to decorate is the top of my vinyl record player…

Currently it’s home to two of my Rae Dunn Christmas mugs, but I would like to decorate it more. I have more Rae Dunn Christmas plates, mugs, and ornaments I can use, but I’m not sure if I want to use them this year. So, I’m currently trying to figure out what sort of Christmas thing I can put between the mugs.

The second place I’m in the process of decorating is the fireplace mantel…

In past years, I would put lights on it as well as metallic garland to make it look brighter. My struggle with this area is it is so dark an it doesn’t give a good contrast against the evergreen color my wreaths are. Because of this, I put a wreath with lighter colors on it to make it pop. This year, I put the Christmas ball wreath I purchased at Target last year on the mantel. And that’s as far as I’ve gotten.

It looks good on it’s own, so I might leave it like that for now. Or until the end of Christmas. I’m not sure. I do need a new garland and I would most likely put it on the mantel. Besides that, I can’t think of what to do next.

The next area I’m in the process of decorating is the top of the piano…

I used the Christmas ball tree I purchased from Target last year that is complementary to the wreath I put on the fireplace mantel. Since they are made in the same style and colors, I put them in the same room. The gingerbread house is a piggy bank that my mom purchased many years ago. At first I didn’t think they would look good together, but after setting them side by side, they look so perfect I don’t want to separate them!

Although I like where I’m heading with the piano decorations, I still want to do some more. I need to raid the rest of my decorations to see what else I have that will look good on the piano.

The final place I am in the progress of decorating is the top of the hutch…

Although I’m not sure if I will keep the hutch the way it looks in the photograph, I’m seriously considering it! Originally, I wanted it to look like a Christmas version of my fall decorations (You can read more about that in my post here) but I didn’t have the garland for that. So, I decided to play around with what I had in my Christmas decoration stash. I used an old wreath I purchased from Target years ago, a light up Joy sign I purchased from Target last year, three empty gift boxes I found at Walmart last year, and a marble gift box with a tag that says noel I purchased from Target last year.

Now that it’s done, I wonder if I need some garland for it at all. I would like to pick up a new garland, but I don’t really care if I use it this year or in Christmases in the future. Still, new garland, preferably with Christmas ball ornaments on it, would be on my radar this month. Especially for after Christmas sales!

As you can probably see, I still don’t have a tree up. I’m working on fixing that. I hope to update everyone on that in a future Christmas decoration post!

Well, that’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
