The ‘Wuthering Heights’ Movie, Will I Watch It, and Why I Will/Won’t Watch It

A new movie inspired by Emily Bronte’s novel Wuthering Heights was released on February 13, 2026. Although I originally thought it would be just another movie version of a classic novel, things changed once I saw some of the paparazzi photographs surfaced online. As time began to pass, I began to hear more and more about how people online were unsure about this movie and it’s faithfulness to the novel.

After watching a few videos, and viewed more content than that, about the movie, I made a decision about if I would or would not watch the movie and why.

Before I continue with this post, I wanted to get one thing out of the way:

I will not be watching the movie.

So, why won’t I be watching the movie? Well, originally it was because I don’t like the book.

I read the book back in my teens. I didn’t need to read it for class, but I also didn’t like the kind of education I got in high school and how well it prepared me for college. So, I decided to teach myself some things I felt I missed in high school before and during my time attending college. This included reading many classic novels. Wuthering Heights is one of these novels.

After reading it, I realized how sad the book is. It deals with serious topics and is not a happy-go-lucky romance story. I knew it wouldn’t be a happy story, but I underestimated how serious the book is. Because of this, I put the book back on my book shelf and left it there. (One of my friends needed the book for one of their classes, so I gave them my copy)

Since I don’t like the Wurthering Heights for casual reading and for my personal enjoyment, I knew a movie based off the book wouldn’t be something I would willingly want to watch.

As of the publishing of this post, the movie, whose title is written on posters and advertisements as ‘Wuthering Heights’ instead of Wuthering Heights, has been in theaters for over a week and a half. After watching a handful of videos about the controversies surrounding the movie, I am glad I decided not to watch the movie! It isn’t the kind of movie I want to watch nor is it as loyal to the book as I expected it to be. Although I’m most familiar with the costumes and how period inaccurate they are, I read the plot of the movie on Wikipedia. Although it’s been almost twenty years since I read the book and I no longer own a copy of the book anymore, I don’t remember some of the things that happened in ‘Wuthering Heights’. In fact, there are specific events in the book that never happened in the book! Especially when it comes to the open door romance scenes!

I’m really surprised by the movie and the amount of inspiration the book’s original plot played in the movie. I’m shocked the movie deviated from the book’s plot and important topics. I thought it would be more like Dune Parts 1 and 2; A high budget movie version of the book that sets a new benchmark for movies inspired by the book. It wasn’t.

I don’t know what will be happening in my future, but I can say that if I have a choice in if I willingly watch ‘Wurthering Heights’ or not, I will not. The book isn’t my favorite classic novel and neither is this movie.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
