The Search for Lego Sets for My Birthday This Year

November is my birthday month. In previous years, I have celebrated by buying myself things that mean a lot to me, but I didn’t want my loved ones to buy for me. These gifts include handbags, expensive ornaments, and Dior plates. (If you want to know what I’m talking about, I wrote a post about one of the plates I purchased here) This year, I decided to do something slightly different. I decided to buy myself indi published and older books and Lego sets. That’s all.

I normally buy myself books for my birthday, so this isn’t anything new. Lego sets, however, are new. I used to love Legos as a girl. This was part of my contrast of toys I used to play with. I would normally love to play with Barbies, Disney Princesses, and other girly things. Yet, I would still pull out my Lego sets every now and then and play with them. I didn’t need many Lego sets. I was happy with the ones I owned. I loved putting them together, making them work, and then playing with them. Even though I was probably a girly girl, I still thought mechanically. This is why I always believed that, no matter how how girly I was, I still needed Legos in my life.

As I have gotten older, I have occasionally purchased new Lego sets and put them together. I don’t play with them, but I do display them in my hutch or a display case. (I also buy my Lego sets with the intention of displaying them. If I don’t think I will be able to display them, then I’ll pass them over.)

This year, I’ve been heavily focused on cleaning out my things. This is when I found some of the Lego sets I purchased as an adult and would display. I don’t have a place to display them right now (I’m still cleaning and my home is a total and really embarrassing mess) so I put them with any displayable collectables I intend on keeping. Yet, finding them made me wonder if there are any other Lego sets I want to own as well.

After over ten years, I decided to buy myself five new Lego sets for my birthday. Since Lego sets can become really expensive, (Especially the ones I want to own and build) I made a cap for the amount of money I intend on spending on a set. So far I’ve found and purchased four sets within my price range. The fifth one has yet to be purchased. Right now I’m torn between one of the Lego Botanical sets (Contrary to what I talked about in a previous post, I have decided to purchase some of them) and a Disney castle set. The botanical set is in out of my price cap by over $10 USD, but the Disney castle is way above my price cap. (One is over $250 USD and another is over $500 USD on Amazon!!!)  I don’t want to buy either set at their full price, but I really don’t care for the other sets I’ve looked at.

To be honest, after the sticker shock, I think I will be just as happy with the four sets I already own than spending well above my budget on either one of the sets just to reach my five set goal. I am still searching online for other sets just in case I missed one before I make my final decision. Yet, I think I’m very certain that I won’t find another set. Still, I am very happy to own my four sets. I just wish I had the space to not only make my sets but also display them!

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
