Movie Review: Pumpkin Pie Wars (2016)

Whenever I’m working from home, I sometimes put on movies and TV shows to listen to in the background. Last year, I found YouTube movies had Pumpkin Pie Wars available to watch. I remember watching it in 2016, but I forgot most of it. Since it was available to watch for free with ads, I decided to put it on while I worked.

Now that it is fall, I decided now would be a good time to write my review of it!

The plot summary of the movie from Hallmark is…

Ten years ago, Faye and Lydia each opened their own bakeries in Emeryville, Ohio, after a personal and professional fall-out during a local Pumpkin Pie contest. Now their children, and co-workers, Casey and Sam, are set to carry on the rivalry as they go head-to-head in the same contest. There’s only problem for these two people who are supposed to hate each other, they start to fall in love. Starring Julie Gonzalo (“Dallas”) and Eric Aragon(“The Perfect Wedding”).

I really liked this movie. The plot was enjoyable, the acting was pretty good, and the pacing of the story was good as well. I enjoyed the story and how it played out. I also really enjoyed watching the love story part of the plot develop. To me, it seemed really natural and believable. (I’m comparing it to other Hallmark holiday themed romance movies) The tension that comes from the pumpkin pie contest is felt throughout the movie, but the mothers’ feud is the main focal point of the tension of the movie.

After watching it again, I can now clearly see a moral to this movie: be careful of feuds. The mother’s feud was not only impacting them, it was also passed onto their children, heavily impacted their husbands, who were best friends, and impacted their town. It also nearly ruined their chances of winning at the pumpkin pie contest. This is why I really enjoyed the ending of the movie. It was quite fun to watch how everything gets resolved! Yet, I still see this moral throughout the story. It is not preached nor is it obvious, but it shows up, slowly but clearly through the incidents and actions and counter actions of the characters.

I highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a well though out, clean, fall-themed romance movie from Hallmark.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
