A New Tomato Plant, Bug Infestation, and Struggles With My Pesticide Allergies
Two weeks ago, I decided to bring home a tomato plant. It wasn’t a spontaneous purchase as I wanted to grow one for many years. Yet, I didn’t plan on purchasing one this year.
With this tomato plant, I now have four plants: An amaryllis, a cactus, a sweet basil, and the tomato plant. I’m really happy to own all four, but I did notice something really serious that happened to my plants: a bug infestation.
Bug infestations have not been a normal occurrence in my house until I started trying to grow plants for food. They seemed to attract bugs, which find a way into the house. I’ve debated on how to take care of this problem, but right now there isn’t much I can do. So, I’ve been relying on pesticides for help.
I don’t like to use pesticides on my plant. I’m not against using pesticides, but I have very serious allergies to them. So, I try to avoid using them whenever I can. After talking to my doctor about this problem a few years ago, I was advised to use powder pesticides instead of liquid. (It’s a long story about why I’m more sensitive to liquid pesticides than powder, so I won’t go into it.) When I found the pests in my plants a week ago, I began to use a powder pesticide on them.
So far the powder pesticide has worked. It has stopped the insects completely and my plants are improving. I didn’t use it on my cactus plant (It didn’t seem to need it. Also, the pesticide I am using wouldn’t work well with my cactus.) and so far it’s fine.
Last night, while checking my tomato plant, I discovered the tomatoes it is growing are now turning red. The basil plant is putting out more leaves and the amaryllis is acting like it does when it is healthy. As for my allergies, I’m doing fine with them. I struggled a little with them after I applied the powder, but I didn’t have an allergic reaction anywhere as severe as I used to stuffer from. I’m glad my plants are doing fine and I am as well! I just need to remember to wear gloves every time I apply pesticide to the plants. I won’t need to do it for a few months, but wearing gloves is something I forget to do whenever I work on my plants.
That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
