5 of My Favorite Sunscreens

Summer is here and it’s the time of the year when people like to spend more time outside. This means more sun exposure and the potential for concerns about skin health. Since over exposure to the sun can cause skin cancer, it is important to find high quality sunscreen to protect the skin.

For me, finding a favorite sunscreen wasn’t very easy. I struggle with allergies to certain chemicals (Along with other allergy triggers) which means I can’t use just any sunscreen. Even though I believed I found the perfect sunscreens before, prolonged use aggravated my allergies. Today, I can honestly say I found five sunscreens I’m certain will work and won’t aggravate my allergies!

Even though it was a journey to find sunscreen that works, I am happy there are five that work for me. Since it is officially summer, I wanted to talk about them and my opinions about each product.

Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Sensitive Skin Sunscreen

This sunscreen is the first sunscreen I tried that actually worked and didn’t aggravate my allergies. It is meant for babies, which means it isn’t supposed to have a lot of chemicals, if any, in it. Because of this, it is a mineral based sunscreen and will have a white cast. When I started wearing it, I didn’t care. I just wanted a sunscreen that works. Today, I have noticed some down sides using the sunscreen. It can wear off easily within the first twenty to thirty minutes of application. (This also depends on how well it is rubbed into the skin) Also, when I say it creates a white cast, I mean it really causes a white cast! Finally, if you rub against something and the screen isn’t rubbed into the skin well, you can leave white smears. For many people, these can be deal breakers. Still, the sunscreen does work. I can tell a difference in my skin’s exposure to the sun after wearing this sunscreen!

Sun Bum Premium Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion

Sum Bum is a sunscreen I tried many years ago. I really liked it a lot, but, at that time, it was not easily available nor was within my budget. Today, I can find it very easily at Ulta Beauty and a small chain grocery store I like to shop at. It is still priced higher than other sunscreens currently available, but it works extremely well. The Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion is by far my favorite sunscreen to use. It comes in an SPF 30 and SPF 50 versions. I prefer to use the SPF 50 version. It does provide a lotion like hydration, but since it is a sunscreen, it does not feel or act like a normal lotion with SPF in it. Also, it is not a mineral sunscreen and it is advertised as being hypoallergenic. Sun Bum sunscreens are still the only sunscreen I can find available in my area that are not mineral sunscreens and do not cause an allergic reaction. I really love this sunscreen and plan on using it in the future. It is definitely a “You get what you pay for” type of sunscreen!

Coppertone Baby Pure & Simple Sunscreen Stick

Switching back to mineral sunscreens, another sunscreen for babies I love is the Coppertone Baby Pure & Simple Sunscreen Stick. This sunscreen is available in a bottle as well as in a stick. I prefer the stick as I find the bottle version too watery and thin for my linking. The stick looks and operates like a deodorant stick. Just take the top off the stick and wipe it on the skin. I like to use this sunscreen on my face more than by body. It doesn’t clog my pores like other sunscreens tend to. Also, it is very portable and convenient to carry around in a handbag.

Sun Bum Premium Sunscreen Face Lotion

The second Sun Bum sunscreen on this list is the Premium Sunscreen Face Lotion. This sunscreen is not a mineral sunscreen, is hypoallergenic, and is formulated to not clog pores. The only SPF I found it in is SPF 70. It really does a great job of keeping the sun away from my skin!

Think Sport Sunscreen

Think Sport Sunscreen is the newest sunscreen I tried on this list. It is a mineral sunscreen, but it is formulated for athletes. This means the sunscreen is different than the baby ones I already listed. One of the differences it has is feels different on the skin than the baby ones. Even though it creates a white cast on the skin, it is not greasy and is thick enough to cover the skin and protect it well. So far, I really like this sunscreen a lot!

Well, that’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
