Young Queens Collection: The Curious Crown by Megan Hess Book Review

Every year, I hear about all the Christmas themed books that people need to read. I personally don’t like to read Christmas themed novels near Christmas, but I love to read Christmas themed children’s book! I think it is a nostalgic thing, but as an adult and a fan of illustrations, I always love to look at the illustrations.

One of my favorite illustrators that are still publishing new books is Megan Hess. This year, she published another Christmas themed children’s book, bringing her total number of Christmas themed books to three. I already published a review post about the first book (You can read it here) but not for the second book. Since it is Blogmas, I decided to write a review post about Megan Hess’ second Christmas themed book, Young Queens Collection: The Curious Crown.

Megan Hess’ Young Queen Collection is a series of children’s books that are about girls “discovering their inner power”. Although I like Megan Hess’ Claris books, as an adult reading and enjoying children’s books for the illustrations, I like the Young Queen Collection more. As of the publishing of this post, there are four books in the series. The Curious Crown is the third book.

The front cover looks like this…

The book is filled with beautiful illustrations, complementing the story…

The book’s synopsis from Amazon is…

As the snow swirls on Christmas Eve, young Ella Rose gazes out the palace window and sees a boy whose own tree is bare. Her family’s Christmas tree is laden with baubles, and she wants to share some with him – but when she goes to leave, it’s freezing outside, and the weather is fierce.

However, Ella Rose dreams of being fierce, too. In her palace, under lock and key, is a magical crown that once belonged to her mother. If she borrows it – just for one night – will it give her the courage, strength and creativity she needs to help this boy?

A sparkling, festive fairy tale about compassion and inner strength.

Like most of the Megan Hess books I’ve reviewed on this blog, I really like this one. The story is cute and heartwarming, the animal friends add a fun twist to the story, and the illustrations are pretty.

I recommend this book for anyone looking for a Christmas story that includes royalty, animal friends, and is different than the normal Christmas stories about Santa Claus. I think this book would be enjoyed more by girls than boys, (Because it is part of a series for girls to find their “inner queen”)  but boys could like it too. It is recommended for ages 4-7 years old.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
