Shopping at Home Goods and If the Trendy Internet Shopping Craze is Really Worth It

Earlier this week, I decided to spontaneously stop by my closest Home Goods. I haven’t been to this particular Home Goods since the beginning of this year due to vehicle problems… and my own lack of motivation to actually shop. During this trip, I needed to go to the area for another reason. When I drove past the shopping area Home Goods is located, I remembered I wanted to shop for several things there. So, I decided it was a good idea to stop by!

While waiting for a price check on one of the items I was shopping for, I talked to the cashier about the store and a few other things. That was when she mentioned how popular Hello Kitty was last year. She talked about a long line for people to get into the store before it opened just to be able to purchase Hello Kitty merchandise.

I didn’t mention this to her (I didn’t think it would be something to mention), but I have friends that told me about the line because they were stuck in it. They weren’t die hard fans of Hello Kitty (Though they like her and think she is pretty cute). Instead, they were there shopping for something else Home Goods sold. They just so happened to get stuck in the Hello Kitty shopping craze. They warned me not to go shopping at any Home Goods for a while, or until the afternoon when all the merchandise was purchase and the crowds went away.

Even though my friends saw the Hello Kitty shopping craze in person, I saw it too… online. I read articles about how crazy it was to shop at Home Goods and watched videos about it as well. I was pretty surprised by how crazy it was to shop at Home Goods, Marshall’s, and TJ Maxx last year.

I’m not going to lie, when my vehicle when down earlier this year, I was really upset. Today, when it comes to shopping at Home Goods, I didn’t miss shopping in person for a while. Also, everything I saw and heard made me rethink shopping and what I purchase. I wondered if there really were things I needed from certain stores I usually shop at, including Home Goods, and how badly I will fight for them. To me, fighting over a ceramic figurine of Hello Kitty or a throw pillow in the shape of a gingerbread isn’t really worth it. Do I sometimes want them? Sure. (Especially the gingerbread throw pillow.) Yet, I’m not going to fight a sea of people for it. If it is popular enough, I’ll find it again after someone returns it or the year after when the store orders more stock. (This is how I was able to purchase my gingerbread throw pillow. Nobody fought me for it. Nobody seemed to care… except it was last year’s Christmas trend and nobody fought me for it.)

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
