Books I Read in July 2024
Last month, I decided to set a very high reading goal for me. My goal was to read ten books before the end of the month. I decided to do this in order to push myself to read more and get faster at reading. I used to be a fast reader, but I needed to slow down during school. Since then I haven’t been able to pick up my reading speed. This year, I made a goal to start practice reading faster.
I didn’t make my goal, but I did read and finish more than five. Some of the books are manga, which means I read them faster than novels. Still, I am still really happy I was able to read and finish more than five books in a month.
Since the end of July, I have thought about the books I read. Some of them I like while others I’m not sure about. Instead of dedicating posts to every book I read, I decided to compile my thoughts into one posts. I still plan on writing review posts about certain books, specifically novels, in the future, but that is for the future.
Manga
In July, I decided to continue reading the manga I haven’t read. I didn’t realize how much manga I own that I haven’t read or read in many years. So, I decided to read them. Some of the titles I read include Sailor Moon and Demon Slayer.
Murder, She Wrote: Debonair in Death by Jessica Fletcher and Terrie Farley Moran
I started reading the Murder, She Wrote book series many years ago. I really like the idea of keeping stories going even if the TV series isn’t on the air anymore. I finished reading Debonair in Death in July and liked it. It contained more references to modern day pop culture than the TV series, but it was enjoyable.
Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett
I was able to get on chapter into the book before the end of the month. Even though I’m not very deep into the book, I am interested in it enough to continue reading it.
Sound of Light: A Marvel School of X Novel by Amanda Bridgeman
I bought this book because I like the Dazzler. She is a mutant from Marvel Comics and has her own comic series. I always loved the story of a woman who became a rock star after working for a top secret organization. This novel is the first time I saw a story about her aside from the comic books. It is a fast moving novel and so far has been really enjoyable.
There’s No Such Thing as Bad Weather by Linda Akeson McGurk
This book is different from all the other books I read this month in that it is non fiction. It is about the Scandinavian way of raising children and how it is different than in the United States. I found this book while looking for books about schooling in the United States. I felt inspired to look for books about the American school system after hearing and seeing problems with my friends’ children in the same schools I used to go to school at. This book is one of the books I found during a search on Amazon. Even though I have barely started the book, I’m really looking forward to learning about how Scandinavian culture shapes their way of raising children. I have Scandinavian ancestry (As well as ancestry from other European countries) but I know very little about their traditions or way of living. This has given me more reason to read this book!
That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
