Update on My Baking Process: Mixer Problems, Bread Baking, and Deserts I Now Love

It’s been a few months since I talked about baking bread in a post. I wanted to give a monthly update about how well I’m doing with my bread baking skills, but I ended up not.

In the mean time, things happened in my kitchen. One of those things was problems with my mixer. This was the main reason for my decision to not post updates. I was finally able to get a new one… over a month after I decided to stop using the old one! (I don’t know why it took so long to ship, but there it is) Instead, I decided to focus on baking deserts. I could make them with a hand mixer, which I had.

In order to get myself back to posting about my baking adventures, I decided to write a post about what happened. This way I can update everyone on what happened before I talk in depth about what I baked.

Mixer Problems

After 30 or so years of service, the mixer I learned to bake with has finally died. The engine was shooting sparks and didn’t mix as well as it used to, so it was time to get a new one. The old mixer is no longer made, so I needed to get a new one. Both my new mixer and old mixer are Kitchenaid brand, so I was already familiar with how to use it. Even though I didn’t need a crash course in learning how to use the mixer, I still have trouble getting use to it. The new mixer is smaller, less heavy, and the head tilts up and down. I am getting use to using it though, but it does make me sad I still can’t use my old mixer anymore.

Baking Baking

Baking bread was something I wanted to master due to my allergies to ingredients included in the brands of breads I used to eat. I am happy to say my white break baking skills have improved dramatically. Owning a new mixer has also helped make bread much easier. Earlier this year, I attempted to make a different kind of bread. It turned out wrong, mostly because it was my first time making this type of bread and it was vastly more difficult that the white bread recipe I normally use. Still, it worked well as a breadstick and it tasted really good when dipped in spaghetti sauce!

Deserts I Now Love

Along with baking bread, I also began to bake more deserts. I have yet to attempt to make macaroons, but I have made cookies and a fudge brownie from scratch. All of them are really good and most of them are easy to make. I love making them and eating them. They are way better for me because they don’t contain any ingredients that are also my food allergies.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
