8 Fall Activities to Do in Arizona
Fall is a wonderful time of the year in the state of Arizona. The temperatures are cooling off, the days are getting shorter, and outdoor weather events are in full swing! Even though there are so many activities and events, there are still specific events and activities that are related to the seasons. If you want to still celebrate fall, yet want to do it with an Arizona flair, I compiled a list of eight fall activities that can be done in the state of Arizona. Some of them are typical fall activities while others may be a little bit different and unique. I hope you are inspired to travel the state of Arizona and enjoy some fall activities!
Visit the Arizona State Fair
In late September to October, the Arizona State Fair is held in Phoenix, Arizona. If you love fairs and want to see the biggest fair in the state, this is the perfect way of celebrating fall. It attracts people from all over the state to exhibit. There are also all kinds of unique food, rides, and other fun things to do. Also, the State Fair has concerts and other events that have free admission with a ticket to the fair.
Go Pumpkin Picking
In the state of Arizona, there are multiple farms that grow pumpkins. Every fall, when the pumpkins are ready to pick, the farms allow people to go and pick their own pumpkins. Certain farms go above and beyond this by holding fall themed events and festivals.
Go Apple Picking
Just like pumpkin picking, apple picking is a great way to celebrate the fall season. There are apple orchards around the state, but they are mostly located outside of The Valley, Central Arizona Valley, and other low lands in the state. Traveling to them could take a while (Depending on where you live) but the scenery is beautiful. Since the orchards are usually in a higher altitude, the temperatures will be cooler.
Explore a Corn Maze
Corn mazes are fun, especially if it is located on the same farm that has a pumpkin patch. In Arizona, exploring the mazes are a lot of fun. Farms like to cut their mazes in fun shapes. Others cut their maze in the shape of a local celebrity. And there are some that have haunted corn mazes. These mazes are usually open during the month of October and are similar to haunted houses.
Ride a Train
Train rides are an unusual activity to do during the fall, but in Arizona, it is really enjoyable! There are different trains to take, including two different scenic train rides in the mountains of Arizona. If you are looking for something fun and enjoyable to do without needing to do all driving to enjoy it, I suggest riding a train.
Take a Hike
In the fall, the temperatures in Arizona start to cool off. This is why the fall is the perfect time to go for a hike. Arizona has many hiking trails, some longer and harder than others, so there are many options. Another reason why I like hiking in Arizona more than other seasons is because the wild animals are starting to go into hibernation. This means the risk of running into a rattle snake goes down as the fall seasons progress!
See the Fall Colors
Many newcomers to Arizona don’t think the state has fall colors, yet there are trees that change colors in the state! (Actually, the newcomers to the Valley. Anyone who lives in the mountains will know the state has fall colors.) The state does not have fall colors in The Valley or the low lands in general, but it does have trees with leaves that will change colors during the fall! In general, trees in the highest mountains in the state will change colors in September while the lower altitude mountains turn in October.
Go on a Ghost Walk or Graveyard Tour
Arizona is home to Wild West ghost towns. Although the term “ghost town” does not actually mean ghosts can be found there, there are still ghost towns with ghost sightings. In order to enjoy the spooky season, go to a ghost town, or a town or city with a building with reported ghost sightings, and go on a ghost walk. These walks vary greatly depending on the location and the amount of buildings with reported ghost sightings. I believe the best ghost walks incorporate the ghost stories as well as a history lesson about the buildings in the area. Another idea is a graveyard tour. The one I suggest looking into the most is the Tombstone graveyard tour.
Well, that’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
