I Bought a Pumpkin for Fall! Why I Did It and What I’m Going to Do With It
Yes, the title of the post says it all. I purchased a pumpkin for the fall! It wasn’t very expensive, but it is still important. This pumpkin is the first pumpkin I ever purchased to create pumpkin pie with!
Before I talk about why I decided to not use canned pumpkin to make pumpkin pie with, I wanted to show off what it looks like…

Yes, I know it is really excessive to give a pumpkin I purchased at the grocery store its own photoshoot, but I was really excited to own it! Growing up, I used to make Jack-o-Lanterns out of real pumpkins. They were fun to create, but they never lasted very long. As an adult, I decided to used fake pumpkins to make Jack-o-Lanterns instead. Since then, I never bought a pumpkin.
Last year, I found many pumpkins in the grocery store. I wanted to buy one, but not for decoration. Instead, I wanted to make pumpkin pie out of it. I used to like the way the pumpkin pies tasted when it was made out of non canned pumpkin more. As an adult, I always made pumpkin pie out of canned pumpkin. Even though it was convent, the recipe I used didn’t work well with canned pumpkin. Now, I am tired of using this recipe. Before I stop using the recipe completely, I decided to buy myself a pumpkin, cook it, then make pies out of it.
Making pumpkin pie from scratch like this is not easy and is more labor intensive. Still, I’m passionate about giving it a try. If it fails, I’ll start to look for a different recipe to use to make pie instead.
Well, that’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
UPDATE: After reading some articles online, I discovered the pumpkin I purchased is for carving Jack-o-Lanterns and could potentially not be good for pie making. Despite this, the recipe I mentioned before in this post was always made with large pumpkins like the one I purchased. Even though this may not turn out as well as I hope, since the recipe was made with this type of pumpkin in the past, and the sugar ratio in the recipe also reflects that, I will still be proceeding forward in making pie out of this pumpkin. I will also be looking for a new pumpkin pie recipe, preferably one with less sugar added into it.
