Current Fashion Trends and the Problems I Have Finding Clothes in My Favorite Fashion Style

This past weekend, I did some online shopping for clothing. I both wanted to shop for end of season sales as well as clothing for the fall and winter season. After looking at all the stores I normally browse as well as new stores that I don’t, I finally gave up my search.

On Sunday night, while watching TV and thinking about how hard it is to find clothing, I finally realized something: I really don’t like the clothing that is available!

Fashion is all about the trends, which is great for someone who intends on wearing whatever is in style all the time. As for me, I want to buy clothes I can wear on repeat over and over again for months if not years. I have a style I like to look for as well as other alternative fashion styles I don’t mind wearing if I can’t find anything available in my favorite style. Yet, after years of looking for clothes I would like to wear, I’m officially admitting I hate many, if not all, the current trends. In fact, the last time I loved the fashion trends was back in late 2016 to very early 2017.

Even though I don’t like the trends, I can honestly say that doesn’t deter me from dressing the way I want to. I know how to sew, so I’m not unnerved if I can’t find clothes I want to wear. I just go through my sewing pattern collection, find a sewing pattern, find some fabric, and make myself the clothing. Sadly, some of my most favorite clothes never inspired sewing patterns. If I didn’t clone my clothes as a pattern (That is a way of drafting a sewing pattern based off already existing clothing) then I don’t have a pattern to work from. Also, my work has been very demanding lately, which means I have less free time to work on my sewing projects.

In addition to my dislike of the clothing available to purchase, I don’t like the clothing my old tried and true favorite social media fashion content creators/influencers talk about. I already know the clothing they talk about will not flatter me, especially if I have an allergy flare up. The fit of the clothing isn’t that nice either. And the price of anything I kind of like is so high I can’t believe it.

Basically, I feel like I’m stuck in a fashion time warp. I want to go back to the mid 2000’s to mid 2010’s. I don’t care if I look outdated. I don’t care if I don’t look hip or cool. I don’t care if someone doesn’t like the way I dress! The clothes I could find were comfortable as well as flattering to me. Even today they are flattering on my body! I miss the retro and vintage inspired clothing, shoes, and accessories available back then. I miss finding both career wear clothing that I can double as going out clothing. I miss the ability to mix and match the old clothing with the new styles. I also miss looking feminine and tough at the same time. I even miss the wedge heels that were so popular back then!

My fashion style is not for everyone, but my struggles finding clothing like this does demonstrate something I believe everyone looking for clothing struggles with: We are told certain clothing is what everyone should wear and nothing else. And that is just dumb.

I dress the way I do due to my lifestyle and my work. I don’t always have the chance to wear heels. Yet, I can still wear feminine clothing as long as I can move easily in them. My work also doesn’t always allow for more feminine clothing unless I can move easily in it. Mobility is crucial for my job and I want to invest into clothing that make it easy for me to move around in. If that means I’m not trendy, then so be it. When the fashion industry makes it hard for me to find clothing that fits my lifestyle the most, it makes me really annoyed. So annoyed I stopped shopping at actual stores and focused my efforts to find clothing online only. Like I already mentioned before, my search online has also turned up nothing as well.

Trends in fashion circle around. This means my fashion style will come back eventually. I just wish it came back soon enough for me to replace my old clothing with new pieces!

Well, that’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
