5 Favorite Summertime Treats

Summer, like the other three seasons of the year, have certain types of foods that are commonly associated with them. One of the most popular types of foods people associate with the summer season are the treats. Treats can mean different types of foods for different people, but to me it means deserts and other sweet foods. I have many treats I enjoy eating during this time of the year, some are better to eat than others. After thinking so much about what kinds of foods I would like to make for myself, I decided to write a post about five of my favorite summertime treats. These are also the treats I’m most excited to eat this year… if I can make them!

Apple Pie

Apple pie is a staple of the summertime treats, but for me, it is one of my favorite treats in general. Even though I enjoy it year round, eating it in the summertime is special. I usually make my own food from scratch due to food allergies, but apple pie is one of the last deserts I can eat from the store. I still prefer to eat home made ones though. They always taste better!

Lemon Meringue Pie

Lemon Meringue Pie is one of those deserts I don’t eat much, but when I do, it is special. Growing up, I would eat them during the summertime. Whenever it was hot outside, eating a cool lemon meringue pie was one of my favorite deserts. I don’t eat them much anymore because of my food allergies and they are hard to make. Still, the memories of eating the pie during summertime makes me happy.

Ice Cream

Ice Cream is a staple for warm winter months. This is why I really enjoy eating it during the summertime! Since I have food allergies, I became very particular about what flavors I eat and what brand I eat. Still, eating ice cream is always a great treat to have during hot summer months!

Popsicles

When I was growing up, I used to love to eat popsicles. Over time, many of the ingredients changed and caused my food allergies to become aggravated. Today, I can’t eat store bought popsicles. Instead of eating popsicles from the store, I make them myself! It took some trial and error to get them right, but am happy with the results. They also taste better than any of the store bought popsicles too!

Homemade Pudding

Yes, you read that right. I love homemade pudding. Like with the popsicles, I can’t eat store bought pudding mixes due to my allergies. Instead, I make a homemade pudding. The pudding recipe I used was found in a 1970’s Betty Crocker Cookbook and is actually more like a custard than a pudding. Still, I love to eat it. Since it is so complicated to make, I don’t make it often. Yet, every year, around the 4th of July, I always want to make myself some of my favorite pudding.

Well, that’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
