Kate Spade New York Live Colorfully Fragrance Review

I purchased a bottle of Kate Spade New York’s fragrance, Live Colorfully, years ago. I also mentioned purchasing it in a post years ago! After a mass cleanup, clean out, and organization of my things, I discovered the bottle I purchased years ago.

Even though I was happy to see it again, I quickly realized why it got buried under other things. When I purchased it, I wanted to write a post about it. After using the fragrance, I didn’t like it. Yet, I kept my bottle and never wrote a review post about it because I knew it would be negative. After years of owning it, I decided to finally write and publish a review post about Live Colorfully, even though it would be a negative review.

Before I talk about what I don’t like about the fragrance, I wanted to show what the bottle looks like…

On the website Fragrantica.com, the description of the fragrance, and it’s release details, is as follows…

Kate Spade is launching a new fragrance in April 2013. The fragrance is named Live Colorfully. Previous perfumes of the house include Kate Spade from 2003 and Twirl from 2010. Live Colorfully is a fragrance made in-house that marks the 20th anniversary of the brand.

Poppy King, consultants Fabrice Penot and Edouard Roche and Firmenich perfumers worked on developing this new perfume. It opens with accords of sparkling mandarin, pink water lily and star anise. Its exotic heart is made of tiare flower, golden gardenia and coconut water. The base captures notes of sheer amber, musk and vanilla from Tahiti.

The fragrance is available as 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

As I already mentioned, I don’t like the fragrance at all. Since I purchased the fragrance years ago, I tried the fragrance multiple times. Even then I didn’t like the fragrance.

When I purchased the fragrance, I loved the look of the bottle and the idea of the fragrance. In my mind, I thought the fragrance would smell light and fresh, yet the fragrance is not. The musk and amber in it is very heavy and, on my skin, overpowers the other scent notes. It smells more masculine and heavy to me than feminine and fresh. Basically, the scent is not at all what I imagined the fragrance would smell like nor is it something I enjoy wearing.

Even though I don’t like the fragrance or how musky and heavy the scent notes are, the fragrance stays on the skin for a long time. The heavy scent notes, especially the musk and amber, that I don’t like stay on the skin for a long time. Despite my dislike over the fragrance, I can honestly say it will stay on the skin for hours (Over three) before it begins to fade. The staying power of the fragrance does depend on the skin oils, but for me the fragrance stayed on a really long time.

Of course, I didn’t like the fragrance. Yet, I believe this fragrance would be something to try if you or someone you know likes the scent notes. It would also be a good choice for someone who wants a powerful fragrance with fruit and spice notes with a staying power. If you don’t want to give up on the Live Colorfully fragrance, yet don’t like the notes, there are variations to Live Colorfully. They include Live Colorfully Luxe, Live Colorfully Gold, Live Colorfully Sunshine, and Live Colorfully Sunset. Sadly, the fragrance is just not for me. I do love the bottle though. My love for the bottle is actually the reason why I decided to keep the fragrance so long. It reminds me a lot of Kate Spade New York’s branding and all the bright colors used in the clothes.

Well, that’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
