Cook Book Review: Gilmore Girls The Official Cookbook by Elena P. Craig and Kristen Mulrooney

Many years ago, (Actually, in the 2000’s) I used to watch Gilmore Girls. At that time, it was still on the air. I really loved watching it and, even though it wasn’t my most favorite TV series in the world, I still really enjoyed watching it. Fast forward many years to 2020 and I began watching the series again. I did this mostly because I wanted to watch something besides what was available on TV.

Earlier this year, I started to search for a DVD set of the series. When I watched it in 2020, I streamed it, but I like to own DVD or Blu ray of anything I really love to watch. I didn’t own any DVDs of the series, so I began to search for a set of the complete series on DVD. While searching for the DVDs, I discovered an official cookbook of the series. At that time, I wanted to buy more cookbooks. Since I was interested in what the book had to offer for recipes, I decided to buy a copy.

This is what the book’s cover looks like from the front…

And this is what it looks like from the back…

Here is the title page with a photograph of Homemade Toaster Pastries…

And here is the table of contents…

Unfortunately, the photograph of the table of contents is scaled small. I wanted to make it larger, but I had camera problems at that time. So, this is the best I can do!

Introduction page with a photograph of Christmas Apple Tarts…

There are pages dedicated to the explanation of who the people of Stars Hollow, the town where Gilmore Girls takes place in, are…

The recipes in the book is divided into chapters. Each chapter focuses on a location and the food found there. For an example, Chapter Three A Stars Hollow Potluck has the food brought to potlucks held in the town. This is what Chapter One Luke’s Diner intro page looks like…

Here are what some of the recipe pages look like. This is Pasta 3 Ways…

Coffee in an IV, or Tips on Brewing Strong Coffee…

This is for Fluffy Buttermilk Pancakes…

Chicken Noodle Soup with a Side of Mashed Potatoes…

(The recipe is for how to make chicken noodle soup and home made mashed potatoes, both from scratch)

And finally, here is the page for Lane’s Wedding Dumplings…

At the back of the book is a glossary of terms used in the recipes…

And finally, there is a place for notes in the back of the book…

Overall, the book is really cute and enjoyable to read. There is plenty of references to the series that fans will enjoy. The illustrations that decorate the pages of the book are cute and well done. And the photographs of the food make a reader want to make the recipe themselves. The recipes are well worded and are easy to follow. Also, the recipes range in skill level.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I haven not tried any of the recipes in this book, but there are some that are very familiar to me. For an example, the recipe to make mashed potatoes from scratch (Located with the chicken soup recipe) is the exact same recipe I use to make mashed potatoes from scratch. It made me happy to see such a familiar recipe in the book!

I highly recommend this recipe book for anyone looking for a gift (Or a self gift) to a Gilmore Girls fan. It is a well thought out recipe book with plenty of recipes that are referenced in the show. Also, I recommend this book for anyone looking for an Americana recipe book inspired from an American TV show. Many of the recipes are very American or showcases the diversity of the cultures and nationalities of the people who immigrated to the country. For this reason, I think this book would be a great gift or addition to someone’s Americana recipe book library.

Well, that’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
