Ornament Feature: Rodarte’s Target x Neiman Marcus Glass Ornament

Earlier this year, while cleaning out my things from my parent’s house, I discovered a box filled with old ornaments I purchased years ago. I packed them away because I intended to move out of the house and take them with me, but eight years later they still sat in my parent’s house, waiting for me to pick them up and take them to my new home. Seeing them took me down memory lane, so I decided to pick a few ornaments from the box and talk about them and the special memories I have of them.

The first ornament I wanted to talk about is my Rodarte’s Target x Neiman Marcus glass ball ornament.

One of my favorite products from the Target x Neiman Marcus collaboration was the Rodarte glass ball ornament. I love space and anything astronomy related, so this ornament with it’s milky way design caught my eye the moment I saw it. When it was in store, it came in a box and strap around the box with the collaboration logo on it. Also, there was a plastic covering to protect the ornament while in store.

I still have the original packaging, including the the strap…

I also have the plastic covering that protected the ornament while in store, but it gave off a bad reflection in the photographs so I took it off.

The ornament out of the box…

At the top of the ornament, there was a metal tab identifying that this is an official Target x Neiman Marcus collaboration merchandise on one side…

And the Rodarte designer name on the other…

The ornament can be hung on the tree using a ribbon already tied to the top of the ornament…

At the top of the ornament, there is a metal star to hold the loop where the ribbon is tied to…

The thing that caught me by surprise was, and still is, how different this ornament’s style is from what the brand is most known for. It’s subtle, subdued, and very appropriate for Christmas. It’s a sharp contrast from their bold, loud designs Rodarte is known for. There are exceptions, but it was a huge contrast that I was extremely surprised I found something designed by Rodarte that I really loved from a brand that has a style that is not very close to my own.
