5 Gift Ideas for New Travelers
If you knew me when I was growing up, you’d know I never made it a secret I wanted to travel when I grew up. When I became an adult, I was unable to travel due to health problems. Since then, I’ve healed a great deal and would like to travel, but I do not have everything I believe I will need to travel with. While searching for travel items in stores, I began to form a list of items I wish I would be given for Christmas, birthdays, or any other special time as a gift.
This list is by no means a definitive list of items every beginner traveler need to buy or, in some cases, own, but it is something I found would be useful for my own travel plans in the future.
Luggage
New travelers may not own their own luggage or the luggage they own is not very good quality. Although good quality luggage can be very pricey, it is a great gift option for someone who knows the receiver’s tastes and travel needs. Also, if a luggage set is too pricey, try finding a good quality toiletries or make up bag. Both can be found in a variety of sizes and price points, which makes it easier on the gift giver’s wallet while helping the receiver by taking something off their pre-travel to-buy list.
Passport Holder
A passport holder is something travelers do not normally use unless traveling out of the country, but if you know someone who is traveling outside the country or has a passport for any reason, a passport holder is a great gift idea. They come in a variety of styles and price points to fit a variety of budgets, but when choosing a passport holder I would suggest focusing on one thing: get one that is RFID blocking. The RFID blocking passport holders may be more expensive than the non RFID blocking holders, but I believe it is something to seriously consider when giving a passport holder as a gift. It also helps the gift receiver because they do not need to invest in RFID blocking sleeves for everything, including their passport.
Travel Size Make up and Toiletries
If you know someone who will travel in a short amount of time, it’s a great idea to give them a variety of their favorite make up and toiletries in travel size. During the Holiday season, make up and beauty companies release sets with smaller sizes of their most popular products as gifts. The products in these sets are normally the perfect size for air travel. That’s why I believe if someone on you gift giving list, look at Ulta, Sephora, or other places that sell holiday beauty gift sets for travel size make up and beauty products.
As for toiletries, Target and Walmart sell toothpaste, shampoos, sunscreens, and other toiletries essentials. A great gift giving idea is to create a gift basket using all the toiletries you know the gift’s receiver enjoys. Not only is is thoughtful, it also takes away the receiver’s burden of finding all the toiletries them self.
Camera, Camcorder, or an SD Card
Giving someone a camera or a camcorder is a very thoughtful gift, as it gives them the chance to take photos and record memories of their trip. Even though it’s a thoughtful gift, it can be a very pricey gift, but if you want to give a new traveler a large ticket gift, it’s a great way to go… as long as they do not own a camera or camcorder already! Cameras and camcorders can range in price and very depending on what the receiver wants and needs the camera/camcorder to do. Sometimes, a camcorder is needed because of the quality video, but other times a camera is needed because it reduces the amount of weight and bulk someone needs to carry (a camera instead of a camera and camcorder). There area camcorders that can take photos, but there are cameras that can take photos that are better than what a camcorder can do as well as record video in HD. It can be a hard decision, so it is for the best that the receiver of the gift helps with the decision on what to purchase along with what brand and model.
If you want to give something that requires the gift’s receiver to be surprised or you know the receiver already owns a camera and/or camcorder, consider purchasing an SD card. You can never go wrong with SD cards and the bigger the gigabyte space the SD card has, the better, and more appreciated, it will be.
Power Cord Converters
And finally, if you know someone who is traveling outside the country, they will need power cord converts. In this day and age, everyone has a cell phone, most are smart phones, as well as other electronics that need to be recharged after a while. Since wall sockets vary from country to country, it is a necessity to have a converter to enable the traveler to charge their devices and electronics without purchasing all new devices and electronics to use in the country they are visiting. This is why, if you know someone that is traveling to a new country, they need a converter and giving converters that fit the wall sockets of the country they are visiting is a great gift. Plus they are not very expensive and widely available, letting you save your money for a bigger gift.
Well, that’s all for now! Are there any other items new travelers need that you think will be great gifts? Let me know in the comments!
