Five Summer Beauty Essentials

The official star to summer is a few weeks away, but in Arizona it’s already here. Since it’s so hot, I wanted to share five of my favorite summer beauty essentials. I do use all these products year round and most of them are a little obvious, but I wanted to talk about them anyway

Aloe Vera Gel

Even though this is a common essential for summer, aloe vera gel is a must for me. I keep it around just in case I get a sun burn, but also in case the skin on my face gets very dry from dry summer weather. I like to use the clear aloe vera gel instead of gel that is colored because the gel from the aloe vera plant is clear and the color comes from dyes. I found that the gel is more effective at moisturizing my skin if it does not have any dye in it.

Waterproof Mascara

Way back when I began to wear mascara, I realized that the heat of the sun would melt normal mascara unless it was waterproof. Ever since then, I’ve worn waterproof mascara. My old, tried-and-true favorite waterproof mascara is Rimmel’s Scandaleyes Retro Glam, or any waterproof mascara from Rimmel’s Scandaleyes line. Two new mascaras I’m currently trying out are Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Splashes and Loreal Paris’ Voluminous Lash Paradise, both of which work very well also.

Sunscreen

Another mandatory essential that is common for summer is sunscreen. In Arizona, it’s always sunny so wearing sunscreen so if you go outside, wearing sunscreen is a must. My favorite sunscreens are from Neutrogena and are Ultra Sheer, Age Shield Face, and Clear Face. Clear Face is meant for break-out prone skin, and it is so far the only sunscreen I’ve found that does not clog my pore so badly that I need to clean my pores thoroughly after wearing before I break out. Ultra Sheer and Age Shield Face are great sunscreens because they are both over 100 SPF.

Wide Brimmed Hat

I don’t normally wear a hat everyday, but whenever I go outside, I like wide brimmed hats. Wide brimmed hats are perfect for keeping the sun off the face and neck, preventing direct sun exposure. Although I like the look of and to wear straw hats, I do not like straw hats that is loosely woven together. Loosely woven straw hats have holes in the fabric of the hat, so they do not give great sun protection. So, whenever I look for a hat, I pick ones that are made out of tightly woven straw or felt.

Lip Balm

A good lip balm is a must for me. My lips get dry and chapped easily in the dry heat of Arizona’s desert. I like a very nourishing lip balm, such as an Eos, but if I spend a lot of time outside, I also like to use a balm with an SPF in it to give my lips a layer of protection from the sun’s rays.

Well, that’s all I have to talk about! Thank you so much for reading!
