Update on My Vehicle- What’s Going On and What My Next Steps Will Be

Since February, I’ve had vehicle problems. I mentioned these most recent problems on this blog, but I decided to hold off talking about it until there was a calm in the chaos this issue caused.

Today, I’m happy to write that there is a solution… sort of. I’ve gone back and forth about what to talk about, so I decided to talk about what happened to my vehicle, what is mechanically wrong with it, and what is next for me vehicle wise.

My current vehicle was purchased in 2021 as a replacement for an old vehicle. The old vehicle was fine, but there were problems with it. After purchasing the replacement vehicle, I was very happy to own it! It is an older vehicle, like my pervious one, but, for me, it was so much better than my old vehicle. It is a 2001 Toyota 4Runner. I am familiar with the Y2K 4Runners and love them, but my familiarity with them came from my friend’s vehicles. They were big fans of this generation of 4Runners and loved how durable and well made they are. Now that I owned a 4Runner, it was almost a dream come true… until the problems started.

The major problem with my 4Runner is the computer system on it. It began to malfunction and needed to be replaced once. After the computer was replaced, it worked fine. It did have other problems from it’s previous owner, but it didn’t deter me from loving the vehicle.

A few months ago, the computer began to mess with the way the engine worked again. We originally believed it was other parts that malfunctioned (And, after looking at them, they really were malfunctioning) but it became obvious that it was the computer causing the problems.

After talking about it with my relative, it was decided that, since the computer was malfunctioning again, we’d try to find another vehicle. The most upsetting part about these vehicles is the computers. It is known they can malfunction and it will completely disable the vehicle. Finding computers is also not easy to do either. I needed to wait nine months for a replacement computer to be available, and even then it needed to come from a totaled vehicle.

Of course there are more details about the computer and the history with my vehicle, but I decided to leave the details out of this post. I’m not sure if there was something going on that was caused by my family and I’s actions, which is why I decided to omit most of the history and details about it.

So, as you can see, I was without a vehicle. It really limited me and forced me to stay home completely instead of traveling to places I wanted to. This lasted almost two or so months and it’s been a real pain to not be able to travel. I did borrow a vehicle from one of my relatives, but I had to share it with him, which still limited my ability to run errands. After all these problems and repeated attempts to get the computer fixed, my relative suggested to get a new vehicle. Even though I don’t want to spend more money on a vehicle that we knew what the problem was, I knew everyone was in a bind because of this so I agreed.

Today, I’m the proud driver of a 1997 Toyota 4Runner. This 4Runner is older than my first 4Runner, which makes the computer on it different. It could go bad, but it works differently and is simpler computer compared to my first 4Runner. So, we have hope that this makes it a better vehicle than my first one. It does need some help, but it runs really well and started up and drive without needing to be warmed up. (The 2001 4Runner needed to be warmed up before the transmission could work right. It didn’t matter what time of the year it is, it needed to be warmed up.) To be honest, this 1997 4Runner is a much nicer vehicle than my 2001. (Especially when it comes to warming the vehicle up!)

As for what will happen to the 2001, the plan is to tow it to my relative’s back yard. My relative wants it and have an idea for what to do with it, so I’m not going to need to worry about it anymore.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
