5 Places I Want to Travel to in Arizona for Christmas
December 6, 2018
Although I love traveling, I was unable to travel very far this year for a variety of reasons. Despite this, I like to make bucket lists of places I want to go, and some of them during certain times of the year. For today’s Blogmas post, I wanted to share 5 places I want to travel to in my home state of Arizona for Christmas.
I would like to mention that I would like to visit these places during the holiday season and not actually spend Christmas Eve/day there.
Flagstaff is located in the northern portion of Arizona. It is surrounded by mountains and is close to the tallest peaks in the state. I passed through Flagstaff many years ago on the way to the Grand Canyon with my family and wished I could’ve explored Flagstaff more. Although I really don’t care what time of the year I go to Flagstaff, I would love to go during the Christmas holiday season. Flagstaff is the first town I think of when I think of a white Christmas in the state of Arizona and is close to Arizona Snowbowl, a resort where you can go skiing and snowboarding. Even though I’ve never been skiing or snowboarding before, I wanted to try snowboarding for a few years now. So, going to Flagstaff is a great place to try my hand at snowboarding! And if I’m really horrible at it (Which I think I will be) I can still enjoy snow in Arizona!
I’ve been to Prescott, Arizona during the same Grand Canyon trip I saw Flagstaff on. Unlike with Flagstaff, I was able to stay overnight in Prescott and explore a bit. Since then, Prescott has changed and I would like to go back and explore the city again. I believe the holiday season is a great time to see Prescott again because they have an annual Christmas parade and the Yavapai County Courthouse decorated with lights.
While making this list, I had a hard time picking between many different towns and cities in Cochise County. So, to settle it, I decided to just list the whole of Cochise County instead of each city. The cities in specific I would like to travel to are Bisbee, Tombstone, and Willcox. All three cities have events happening during the holiday season, so all I need to do is pick a city and visit it!
I need to admit, as a child I never thought of Scottsdale as a place I would like to go to during the holiday season. That is, until a few years ago when I discovered the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Resort’s Christmas at the Princess event. After discovering Christmas at the Princess, I added Scottsdale to my Arizona holiday season bucket list. Ideally, a trip to Scottsdale during the holiday season is a stay at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, attend Christmas at the Princess, and then wander around Scottsdale to see other Christmas decorations and possibly some Christmas shopping.
And last, but certainly not least, the final place I want to travel to is the Grand Canyon. As you probably figured out, I have been to the Grand Canyon before with my family, but that was years ago and not during the holiday season. I would love to go to the Grand Canyon again and stay overnight. In my mind, a trip to the Grand Canyon would occur after a snow fall. The photographs I’ve seen of the Grand Canyon dusted with fresh snow amaze me and I would like to take a few photographs of my very own one day.
Well, that’s all for now! Does this list inspire you to travel anywhere in Arizona or is there somewhere else you would like to travel to in Arizona I did not list here?
