Christmas is this week and I’m sad to say I don’t have a big tree up in my house. I had plans to put one up, but this year things are different. My house needs work and I don’t have anywhere to put a tree up.

Lately, life has been… interesting. Although there isn’t many important moments, it has been a world wind of worry, concern, frustration, anxiety, and a lot of repair work to my house. There are many things that are holding up well in my house, but there are so many other things that need to be worked on quickly.

It’s that time of the year when the weather has cooled off enough for me to work on my house! I like to work on the interior of the house whenever the weather is cooler. This way I can keep the windows open to ventilate the room without worrying about the summertime heat.
I started working on the house last week. I have a long list of things to tackle and so far things are going well, but slowly. I need to buy more supplies and obtaining them in stores where I live can sometimes be harder said than done. So, I need to order them online and wait for them to arrive.
Since I’m in full house repairs and refreshes mode, I thought it would make a good post idea to talk about some of my plans. For privacy reasons, (And because I don’t know if I will accomplish them in a timely manner) I decided to not include all the things on my to-work-on list.

It’s the fall, which is ironic because Arizona is going through a heatwave. A heatwave so hot it feels more like summer than fall.
Even though it isn’t unheard of to go through such hot temperatures in the fall, this year’s heatwave hold a more significant meaning for me. I decided to use the fall equinox as the unofficial “start date” for me to begin working on home repairs again.
I have mention several times on this blog that I am in the process of working on home repairs. I am doing so of them alone, including patching and painting the walls. Doing the working I am taking on myself can be done during the summertime, but I decided to work on them in the fall. That way if there are any fumes from the paint I use bother me, I can open the windows and doors without worrying about the summer heat.
Right now, I’m not working on anything. The temperatures are too hot and I haven’t been feeling well. So, I haven’t been working on anything. Still, it makes me think about the fact I could just hire someone to work on it for me.
When I was a teenager, I wanted to buy a house and fix it up. My plan was to live in it or rent it. As I grew older, I began to see the magnitude of taking on a fixer upper house. It looks like fun and like a great adventure, but it’s not. Especially if you have health problems like I did. Today, I question why I am taking on this work myself and why I can be like other people I run into and hire someone to work on the house for me.
To be honest, I just want to work on the house as financially efficiently as possible. Painting isn’t as hard as it may seem. Patching the walls is more difficult than painting. Painting just takes time and patience. Also, in an unforeseen twist, I actually like painting my walls. I love the way the walls change after coats of paint. The walls are pretty warn down and drywall is exposed. I love seeing how the walls change from warn down and sad looking walls into painted walls. My romantic side of my imagination thinking of it as transformation from an unloved house to a loved house.
The only problem is I’m pretty slow about actually painting the walls. This, as well as the fact the walls are so warn down that it takes more than two coats of paint, makes it a daunting task. And that is why I question why I don’t hire someone to do it for me.
To be honest, I feel pretty stubborn about this. I really do want to paint the walls myself. I feel like I am waisting my money on hiring someone if I can paint it myself. Yet, I know there are other things in the house I cannot fix myself. My logic is to work on as many things as possible in my house myself and save my money for when I need to hire someone. Or more paint. Whichever comes first.

The official start of fall was this past Sunday. Even though it seems it started in the end of July, I usually start trying to focus on fall themed activities after the fall equinox happens. Where I live, it is still really hot until the end of September. This year, it is still hot outside, but I decided to focus on my fall actitivites and plans anyway.
This year, I have a large list of things to do this fall. Sadly, not all of them will get done but I still aim to see as many of them get done this year. Even sadder is that I have a lot of things to do that aren’t that fun. They include working on my house.
For this fall season, I decided to write the top twelve things I’m planning on doing this fall. This is not the whole list of things I both want and need to do, but it is an acumulation of all the things I am the most intrested and/or serious about.

For many years, I have wanted to make improvements in my house. Despite the fact most of the improvements are not something I can do myself (I don’t have the time, energy, know how, I need more people than just me to work on it, ect.) I am focusing on all the things I can do myself. This includes purchasing new things for the house!
For this post, I wanted to stick to the things I know for a fact I am currently using and am happy with. I have other things I purchased for the house, such as a cube bookcase for my closet, but I haven’t used them or they didn’t work out the way I planned them to. So, I decided not to talk about those things in this post.

I am finally began to paint the bathroom! One coat of paint on some of the walls, sore muscles from stretching, and an almost ruined pair of leggings later, the bathroom no longer looks so yellow. Instead, it is starting to look like the white-with-a-very-light-blue-hue paint color I picked. It is also starting to look really nice.
As of this post, I am starting to need a break from painting. My body just needs some time off to rest. Also, I have too many chores around the house that I have been neglecting. I wanted to paint the whole bathroom within a week, but since I am doing it by myself and I have other things to do during the day, I haven’t spent more than two hours painting the room. This is why progress has been slow. Also, I realized the paint in the bathroom has worn off so much there are sections of the drywall that are starting to absorb the first layer of paint.
Still, I am optimistic. After seeing the color I picked for the walls (An extremely light blue, almost white shade to complement the yellows in the tiles and other things in the bathroom) I really liked it! To me, it makes the bathroom look a lot cleaner and lighter. It still has the original yellow hues, but the paint complements it.
Even though I am frustrated the painting is going slowly, I am excited about the way the bathroom will look like. I don’t have any other plans to decorate it differently than it was prior to painting the walls. Once I’m done painting the walls, and the linen closet shelves, I will be done with the bathroom! Then, I need to decide what to work on next. The problem is I don’t know what to work on next. The kitchen needs paint help. So does the laundry room. Then again, I could just enjoy the newly painted bathroom and work on the rest of the house later. I just need to wait to see what I feel like (And can afford) to do next.

After years, I finally decided to begin to do repairs on my house. I still am planning on moving, just not at this immediate time. Since I will be here for a longer time I anticipated to be, I decided to start fixing parts of the house. I already mentioned this in a previous post, but I decided not to talk about all the things I want to work on and repair online. Even though I won’t talk about everything the house needs, I still feel comfortable talking about some of them.
As I write this post, I am forcing myself to take some time off repairing the house to make my body rest. I also thought this would be a great time to talk about some of my progress and how I’m holding up physically.
