The Sale of Warner Brothers, The CW, and Panic Buying My Favorite TV Shows on DVD

The sale of Warner Brothers has been really huge news for quite some time. It isn’t every day a studio as large, well known, and is over 100 years old begins the process to sell it’s assets (Including the actual studios, catalogue, and more) and start to close it’s doors.

When I heard about it, it was just a small rumbling my friends heard about. Now, we know what they heard wasn’t a rumor and it was the truth. Yet, I began to wonder what would happen if Warner Brothers did close. What would happen to a lot of movies and TV shows I love? Will they still exist on DVD still or will they be available via streaming services only?

After thinking about this for months, I finally decided to star buying my favorite TV shows and movies on DVD.

Buying DVDs of my favorite movies and TV shows isn’t new to me and isn’t abnormal. I have a large DVD collection due to my attempt to find movies I like and enjoy. The problem is I don’t have DVDs of all my favorite movies and TV shows from Warner Brothers. I normally shop for them whenever I see one on sale or for a discounted price. Since the likelihood they will be available for very long is in question, I needed to buy them.

My focus has been purchasing the shows that aired on The CW. The CW, or CW, is a TV station that is run by Warner Brothers. It is also the station that aired many really popular shows, including Gossip Girl, Charmed, and Gilmore Girls. (Some of the TV shows that aired on CW actually aired on a different station that eventually became owned by Warner Brothers or became the CW) Until I heard about the sale of Warner Brothers, I felt ok not owning all the shows I like on DVD. Now, I knew I wanted to own them. So, I began to buy them.

I now own full seasons of Gilmore Girls, Smallville, and shows that are part of the Arrowverse, a DC Comics TV show crossover universe. These shows include Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow. I felt very conflicted about buying Gossip Girl (Love the fashion. Not so much the story…) but I decided to buy it anyway. I also now own The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Legends.

Right now I’m not sure if I want to continue to buy more shows. I have a few I am debating buying, including Charmed which I don’t like, but also don’t really hate. The problem is there is a push by studios to discontinue releasing DVDs. I want DVDs (Or Blu-ray. I can play either of them.) but it is a known fact online that film studios are pushing people like me to subscribe to their streaming services. This has further pushed me to focus on buying these DVDs so I can actually own my media… and watch it without the show buffering all the time.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
