Book Review: The Apple Creek Announcement by Wanda E. Brunstetter

For many years, I’ve had a pile of books I want to review here on this blog, but don’t. Sometimes I forget about them until I stubble on a save post that I never finished. Other times it’s because of other reasons. These reasons can include not liking the book and not knowing what to say about it.

In the case of The Apple Creek Announcement by Wanda E. Brunstetter, I read this book three years ago. Although I finished this book years ago, I ended up struggling to describe in a review post.

The blurb of the book on Amazon is…

Book 3 in the Creektown Discoveries series.
An Amish Quilt Unlocks Secrets from the Past

Welcome to Apple Creek, Ohio, where piano teacher and artist, Andrea Wagner, has a fascination with painting the rural Amish landscapes around her home. She has made it to her thirties feeling like she has had a charmed life and finally has fallen in love with Brandon Prentice, a local veterinarian. But then she discovers she was adopted and all she thought she knew about herself has crumbled. Andrea becomes so fixated on finding her birth mother that she pushes Brandon away, so she writes to the “Dear Caroline” column in the newspaper for romance advice. What will Andrea lose before she finds herself again?

The writing is really well done and I enjoyed the twists and turns that happen in the book. I also really enjoyed Wanda’s way of telling stories about the Amish. The only problem is it was a sad story.

I read this book during a time in my life when I was experiencing major changes. I still feel the weight of those changes today. When it came to some of the topics discussed in this book, it hit me hard. Although I was not adopted, I have experienced many problems with my family that made me question things about me, my life, and my choices in it. These are all things Andrea goes through in the book. The story does end on a happy ending, but it is a bittersweet one.

Although I struggled reading Andrea’s journey towards healing, it still is a pretty good book. The pacing is good, the character development is excellent, and the story ends with a happy ending. Even though this is the third, and last, book in the series, I read it without reading the previous two books. Since I didn’t read them, I cannot compare them to The Apple Creek Announcement. Still, I was able to figure out who is who in this book without the reading the previous other books.

If someone would like to read I, I would recommend it. Even though I struggled to get through it, I can still say it is a well written book worthy of a read.

That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
