5 Tips on Purchasing a Currier & Ives Print (From a Non Expert)
In the well known Christmas song Sleigh Ride, there are lyrics in the song that goes…
“It will Be Like a Picture Print By Currier and Ives”
When I heard that part of the song when I was young, I decided that when I grow up, I would find my own Currier and Ives print to own. Now that I am an adult and search for a Currier and Ives print to own for many years, I realized there are a few things to know before searching for a print.

Even though I am not an expert in collecting vintage and antique prints, I wanted to share 5 tips for purchasing a print (Or lithograph) by this well known print company.
- Before Searching for Prints, Research Currier & Ives’ History
- There Are Many Prints of Many Subject Matters to Choose From. Do Your Research into What They Are and What They Look Like.
- Like With Other Notable Antique Prints, There are Reproductions Out There. Buy From Reputable Shops Only.
- Buying an Antique Print is Pricy, so Budget Accordingly.
- If Purchasing an Antique Print Isn’t Financially Feasible, Logical, or Practical, Consider the Modern Printings of Currier & Ives Prints. Also consider prints made after the company closed.
That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
Photograph featured in this post is of my own Currier and Ives vintage lithograph prints. This lithograph set was created in the 1980’s and is a set called American Homestead. Even though they were printed after the company closed, they are authorized prints in commemoration of the company.
