It’s summer time and everything is reflecting it. The summer temperatures are here, pools are open to swim in, and school is out. Even though it is summer, it is also a time when certain things are more common than others. Like many people, there are certain things that remind me of a certain season. Even though they are common in other seasons, they remind me of summer more than other time of the year.

To celebrate this season, I created a list of five things that remind me of summer. Certain things are also common in other times of the year, but these are the ones that remind me of the warmest time of the year!

Swimming in a Pool

In the state where I live (Arizona) swimming in a pool can be a year round activity. (Depending on where you life) Even though it is not uncommon to go swimming in the spring and fall, it can only be done in residential pools. (Pools that are built in someone’s back yard) If you don’t have a residential pool, you need to go to a public pool or a water park. Public pools and water parks don’t open until the end of May and begin to close daily operations in very late July. Because of this, I always associate swimming in a pool has always be a summertime activity.

 

Red, White, and Blue Decorations

Patriotic decorations are always something to use in times of honoring veterans and other important dates for the United States, but they are especially prevalent in the summertime. This is due to all the celebrations in the nation that happen summer, but mostly because of the 4th of July. It is this time of the year when seeing red, white, and blue decorations throughout the months of June and the beginning of July are common.

 

Flowing Floral Dresses

Flowing floral dresses is something I also associate with the spring, but during the summer they are more common. Also, the type of flower designs on the dresses are different than in spring. The spring dresses are more subdued. They have a softer color pallet and are clearly inspired by the spring blossoms. The summer dresses are much more bold, with a bright color pallet and flowers that could blossom in the spring and the summer, or just in the summer time.

 

Fruit Pies

Fruit pies are something I love to eat all year round (Especially during Thanksgiving!) but to eat them in the summertime is something special. The pies I love the most are made using fruits that are ripe and fresh in the summertime.

 

Ice Cream

Ice cream can be enjoyed year round, but nothing beats eating ice cream during a hot summer day! Growing up, I used to only eat ice cream during the summer months. I don’t remember why I used to do this, but I do remember how good it tasted to eat ice cream during the hottest days of summer. This is why I associate ice cream with summertime.
