Hi everyone! It’s been a while since I published a post on this blog. I have been checking in on my social media sites and my blogs, but I didn’t feel ready to start publishing new posts yet.
Right now I still don’t feel ready to start writing or publishing new posts yet, but I do want to write an update post on how my reading goals are going.
To be brutally honest, they are not going so well. I started 2026 with a really ambitious goal of reading a set number of books by the end of the year, but I haven’t been able to reach the halfway goal of it.
That being said, I’m not as pessimistic as I normally would be. The books I had picked to read are not something I really enjoyed and I didn’t finish many of them. Even though I tried repeatedly to read different books, I ended up hating all the ones I would read.
One of my friends noticed I was becoming very frustrated by this, so they suggested that I take some time off reading. When my bread started, which was in May/June of this year, I felt really upset. I was very committed to become a type of reader I used to admire and wanted to become, but never did. This year was the year I wanted to change that. Yet, my distain for the books I was reading was so bad I questioned if I really should keep trying to be the type of reader I wanted to become.
Since then, I began to notice I felt more relaxed about how I am as a reader. I realized I was comparing myself to an unrealistic goal… and that goal took away from my love of reading. I want to read for the enjoyment of the stories. Not because of a goal.
Right now I feel like I still potentially could read the amount of books I planned to at the beginning of this year, but I will need to stop working on my hobbies. Reading is one of my hobbies, but I need to focus on my knitting and sewing hobbies. I am currently working on new winter accessories and clothes for myself. These knitting and sewing plans are long overdue and are more important to me than reading. Also, I read not via audio book, but by physical copy, which is why I can’t read and work on my other hobbies at the same time. (I also have no intention of changing my preferred reading method at this time. Especially since I own physical copies of the books I want to read.)
Today, I feel more at peace about not reaching my reading goal for 2026. I’m optimistic that I will be able to read more later this year, but after I finish my knitting and sewing projects for the year. Also, I have found books that I will probably to most certainly will enjoy reading. I’m looking forward to reading them later this year!
That’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
