Thoughts on The Phantom of The Opera Closing on Broadway
If you haven’t heard, The Phantom of the Opera will be closing on Broadway. The last show will be on February 18, 2023, a few weeks shy of it’s 35th anniversary on Broadway. You can read more about the closing, as well as why, here on The New York Times.
Hearing about the closing makes me sad, but I’m not surprised by it. Broadway musicals have been struggling since the pandemic began and forced the closure of all theaters due to social distancing requirements. Also, there are other chances to see Phantom live on stage, but it will require traveling out of the United States.
I don’t know how many of my readers are fans of The Phantom of the Opera, but if I were to recommend a musical to watch for the first time, Phantom is one of the first musicals I recommend. It is a great catch all musical for anyone seriously interested in watching one in person for the first time. The music is catchy, the story is dramatic and memorable, and the special effects and visuals are always amazing. I saw it more than once in person and I wish I could see it one more time before it closes on Broadway. I don’t know if the tour is still active in 2023 (I tried to look at the official tour website and it didn’t load right. So, I don’t have much information as I write this post.) but if it is, I would suggest looking into seeing it. Sadly, everything is expensive, including tickets to musicals and trips to New York City to see a musical. Yet, if you are interested in seeing the musical live and in person, I hope you are able to! It is a very enjoyable experience that I hope everyone curious about it will get to see it before it’s gone.
Well, that’s all for now! Thank you for reading!
